The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce plans to formally endorse Hillary Clinton and Ohio Gov. John Kasich for president on Thursday, according to The Washington Post.

Sen. Ted Cruz is the only person of Latino heritage still in the running, but did not receive the chamber's endorsement.

"I'm heartbroken, heartbroken that I can't endorse a Latino," Javier Palomarez, the chamber's president and CEO, said in the Post report. "If you look at Ted's divisive rhetoric about immigrants, it disqualified him from consideration."

"This is not about being Hispanic. This is about selecting the best person for the job," Palomarez said.

The endorsement credited Kasich for his record on creating jobs in the state of Ohio.

Palomarez admitted that Kasich "doesn't have a huge track record of working with Hispanics specifically," in the endorsement. He added, "The guy's from Ohio."

Clinton has a long record of working with Hispanics, including registering voters in Texas during the 1970s, Palomarez said, and he credited her "ability to enact a robust and pragmatic policy agenda that will allow the Hispanic small business community to thrive and prosper."

In announcing the endorsements, the chamber condemned Trump for his "hateful rhetoric." The statement said it "sends a clear message that Hispanic voters won't forget: he does not stand with our community."

The chamber represents more than 270 corporations and companies who generate more than $660 billion in economic activity, according to the Post.

A report in Prospect pointed out that the chamber is pushing for Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro as Clinton's vice presidential choice.

In March, the chamber endorsed Arizona Sen. John McCain for reelection, according to Fox News Latino. The announcement by Palomarez called McCain "a true friend of the Hispanic business community."
