« on: April 28, 2016, 03:29:29 pm »
We are into the 2nd round of the Stanley Cup playoffs:

Tonight, the Penguins play at the Capitals.

The matchups are:
East:
The Pittsburgh Penguins vs. the Washington Capitals.
The New York Islanders vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning.

West:
The Nashville Predators vs. the San Jose Sharks
The St. Louis Blues vs the Dallas Stars

Tomorrow the Western matchups will begin. Best of Seven.

Glad to find another hockey fan here.

The Islanders jumped all over the Lightning last night.  Wasn't much of a game after the first period.

The Penguins-Caps, Stars-Blues series will be the best.

The consensus seems to be that the Caps can't stand up to the hard-charging Pens and that the Blues are much deeper than Dallas (especially since Tyler Seguin is out for Dallas) and that Dallas' platoon goalie system is just not up to Elliott's experience.

This is Dallas' strongest team in ten years and, even if they don't make it to the Finals this year, Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin will get them back to the playoffs for a long while.

My preferred team (Buffalo) is out of it (again) this year so I'm not following that closely.

Still, I'd like to see San Jose after all these years finally get over the hump.

We've got your old coach--Lindy Ruff- down here in Dallas.  I remember he was the Sabres coach when the Stars won the Stanley Cup back in 1999 against, of all people, Ken Hitchcock, whom he's coaching against in St. Louis.

Good, we use to watch the Fort Worth Redwings, Dallas Blackhawks, Tulsa Oilers, KC had a team, I forget, Royals? and others growing up, the 50,000 blowtorch, KMOX blasted the St. Louis Blues games in those days. I wrote them a letter way back when I must have been only 11 or so and they sent me some St. Louis Blues info, postcards. I'll never really hate the Blues.

I'm no fan of the Islanders per se either but they've been down in the dumps for years now. So, I'm a bit glad to see them in there.

And I've always liked the Sharks some but I'm fairly neutral to them playing Nashville but the Sharks are due, they probably should have been in the SC finals years ago.

I thought the Caps were pretty solid but Philly did make a series of it.

Tampa Bay won the SC not too long ago, so we will see. I'm sure they are favored in their series.

Loved Buffalo back in the day when the front line was called "The French Connection"....Gil Perreault, Rick Martin and Rene Robert.

I all in for ROCKIN' THE RED...for the Capitals.

Game 1 will set the tone.   For me, anyways.   LOL!   We've been up 3-1 before and couldn't finish.

God damned Penquins?   In the SEMI FINALS??

They should be playing for the cup.

I'm a little scared.

One of my college classmates (I believe she's pretty conservative too if I recall right) is a big Caps fan (she's from Maryland). They're having a great year.

As for the Penguins... blech. I can't stand them; haven't been able to since they drafted Sidney Crosby.

The Penguins vs. the Sharks in the Stanley Cup finals.

There are a number of Penguin fans around and Pittsburgh has won the Stanley Cup a number of times.

This is San Jose's first time to the Stanley Cup finals.

Pulling for San Jose, without question.

Had a team from 67-76, lost it, got it back in 91, have come so close year after year to the Cup finals, now they get their chance.

Plus I loathe Sidney Crosby with a passion.

I'm with you in wanting SJ more or less, Myrle.

Exciting, SJ finally scored against the Penguins; 1-1 late in the 3rd. We will see.
