With the presidential race heating up in California, Republican Donald Trump on Tuesday named veteran GOP strategist Tim Clark as his state director.

Clark has more than two decades of experience running statewide and district campaigns, and will take a leave of absence as chief of staff to conservative state Sen. John Moorlach of Costa Mesa.

This guy should be a real gem. How many GOP seats have been lost statewide in CA over the period this genius has been working?

Donald Trump names Sacramento strategist as state director
The Sacramento Bee, Christopher Cadelago, Apr 12, 2016

With the presidential race heating up in California, Republican Donald Trump on Tuesday named veteran GOP strategist Tim Clark as his state director.

Clark has more than two decades of experience running statewide and district campaigns, and will take a leave of absence as chief of staff to conservative state Sen. John Moorlach of Costa Mesa. Before coming to the Capitol, Clark guided Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin’s 2014 bid for state controller.

“I am pleased to bring Tim on board to organize what is a very important state,” Trump said in a prepared statement announcing the hire. “I know he will be an asset to the team and ultimately deliver a win in California.”

In a brief interview, Clark said his focus will be on harnessing the energy of thousands of volunteers to help Trump reach the delegates he needs to clinch the GOP nomination. “Look, this is one of the most historic presidential primary races we’ve had in the last century,” Clark said.

“There is a tremendous energy out there,” he added. “There is a tremendous excitement out there. Our base is getting energized for Trump.”

Clark, who has not lost a statewide primary race, said he won’t need on-the-job preparation. Trump previously tapped Ted Costa, another longtime Republican activist involved in the 2003 recall, to help organized delegates.

They join a race in which GOP rival Ted Cruz has spent months cultivating grassroots support across California. Cruz held spirited public rallies Monday in Orange County and San Diego and released a list of 50 current and former elected supporters.

Trump leads in public polls here and Clark said he is planning several visits.

Said Clark: “Mr. Trump intends to play and play hard in California.”

That's just part of the problem:  Trump is just playing around; a bored billionaire with nothing better to do.  Cruz, on the other hand, is putting real work into it, like it means something.

Cruz is actually campaigning in the state. Trump is stuck trying to salvage NY. Plus 538 has Cruz at 60% to win the state. Donny at 37%. Not good at all.

The two most recent polls have Trump leading in California by 7 and 8 percent...and that's with, as you say, Cruz on the ground campaigning furiously (mostly because he already knows he's going to get annihilated  in New York and all throughout the Northeast). Once Trump hits the ground with momentum from his big wins in NY and Pennsylvania (among others), California will be strong Trump country. Heck, it already is.

First off Jim Hoft is a horses ass and his poll is full of shit. There has been only one polling outfit that has done two consecutive polls and it shows Donny losing 10 points and is at 56%.

Seven points for Donny is terrible as well because he over polls by 5 and Cruz underpolls by 5. Add it up.

Right. You don't have one single thing to back that up in Trumps Primary history, but keep on believin'.

The latest poll in New York shows Donald Trump comfortably ahead in his home state — leading his rivals by 43 points, according to the NY1/Baruch College .

Trump has 60 percent support in the Empire State, according to a NY1/Baruch College survey released late Monday.

Great. Mathematically he may still come out with less than half the delegates because NY is not a winner take all state.  Mathematically, assuming all districts have approximately the same number of voters, Trump could win 60% statewide, win 7 districts by 100%, and still end up with fewer than half the delegates.

Anything less than a smashing victory for Trump in NY will be a resounding loss because it's his home state.

Why put out "spin" on a discussion board...its just wasted effort and makes you look inauthentic. If Trump has over 50% in New York, its a huge victory and momentum builder...and he will get a lot more than half the delegates. Likewise, wins in Pennsylvania and other Northeast states with relatively wide margins...say double digits...will also build the Trump Mo. It just is what it is. I'm not saying that will knock Cruz out, but it sure will push him to the edge of the cliff. If that momentum leads into a strong Trump win in California...greater than 5% perhaps...he's going to be the nominee.
