Ted Cruz on Immigration: This problem will solve itself

WASHINGTON (CBS News) - During an interview with Republican presidential candidate, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) for Face the Nation, host John Dickerson asks the Texas senator if under his presidency private citizens would be expected to report undocumented immigrants to authorities.

Cruz responded saying that the problem would "solve itself," and laid out the Immigration plan from his website tedcruz.org.

"We'll build a wall, we'll triple the border patrol. We'll put in place strong e-verify, the workplace. We will end sanctuary cities by cutting off federal tax payer funds. We will end welfare for those here illegally, and we'll enforce the law." Cruz said.

Now who the hell would ever think we could afford to build a wall? I mean, isn't that just one of the dumbest proposals you've evr heard or read?

How far did this proposal get when Cruz brought it up in the Senate?  Oh, wait, never mind.   Do I even need to say: "Lyin' Ted"?  :smokin:

"Building a wall" is propaganda designed to appeal to idiots.   The problem of illegal immigration requires a comprehensive solution,  with border enforcement playing a role but coupled with a host of other reforms intended to rationalize the labor market.  Illegals come here because there is a demand for their services;  nothing can truly change unless and until that reality is confronted and addressed.

WRONG!  Building a wall isn't propaganda ... in fact BOTH house of Congress passed the Secure Fence Act in 2006.  Propaganda is saying that we can't afford to build a wall designed to appeal to idiots.  Consider that the U.S. spent appx. $37,680,000,000.00 in foreign aid, I think we can afford to build a secure border fence.

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

LB,  we need more border security,  but that alone won't solve the problem.   It is the demand for labor that drives illegal immigration.   They don't come here to plunder, they come here to work, and work hard.   A 1,500-mile wall is unrealistic; reform to rationalize the labor market is not.

It certainly appealed to the "idiots" of Eastern European countries trying to deal with the migrant wave there.

For those countries that built border barriers, the "migration" was effectively... stopped. It forced the migrants to seek other routes. But the barriers worked.

The issue of "a wall" effectively separates the anti-illegal members of this forum from the pro-illegal immigration members (jazzhead appears to be one of the latter).

The reason that members like jazzhead are so opposed to a simple border barrier is because such instrumentalities simply -WORK-. A wall is a simple, passive obstruction that does the job. It prevents people from reaching the other side. And that's why the pro-illegals don't want such a thing, because they want the illegals to keep coming.

Nations have borders for the same reason that boats have hulls.
Right now, our "hull" is leaking, and the holes are deliberately being enlarged by the democrats who control the administration.

Before you can deal with the water inside, you've got to seal the hull.

Or, to put it another way, from back when I was a new recruit at Ft. Dix in 1970: The first lesson of first aid was, "stop the bleeding". Get the wound stabilized, and then deal with the injury.

A patch in the hull, a proper bandaging of the wound, a "border barrier".
All similar.
All can do the job.

Get the border sealed, first.
THEN we'll talk about what to do next.
