At least two people were killed in a shooting at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas Friday, authorities said.

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office wrote on social media that at least two people had died in the shooting Friday morning and that deputies were still working to clear the buildings inside the base.

Authorities first confirmed just before 9 A.M. Friday morning that they were responding to reports of an active shooter situation at the Air Force base in San Antonio. The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Twitter that there were “victims.”

The Associated Press, citing a spokesman for the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, later reported that two people had been killed in an apparent murder-suicide at the Air Force base. Authorities discovered two bodies in a room of a building at the base, according to the report. Police believed the shooter to be among the victims but were still conducting a search.

Deputies were inside the base clearing the buildings Friday morning, The Sheriff’s office wrote on Twitter. Authorities initially said that there had not been confirmation of an active shooter.

Lackland Air Force Base is part of Joint Base San Antonio.
