The Jennifer Carr Hoax
« on: March 30, 2016, 03:31:16 am »
A quick posting before anyone follows it. Twitter and freepers are abuzz with a tweet from an account that goes by LA Times Jenn Carr.  Here is the Tweet in question.

Immediately, a lot of people found problems with that account. First, there is no Jenn Carr working for the LA Times.
Most importantly though, if you scroll down in that account's posts, you'll see that it is a lot of sports betting spam.

Reddit was also on top of it.

There are a LOT of accounts like this driving traffic to sports betting sites. Apparently, someone decided they would use their spam account to drive up their followers.

One more bit of evidence (as if anything else is needed), the profile pic she uses is shared by hundreds of twitter accounts of one form of spambait or another. (Google reverse image search)

Twitter finally deleted the fake account after it was called out as a hoax.

Soooooo......the question arises. Was this a Roger Stone/Donny Drumpf idea to breath life into the dead corpse of a smear on Cruz? Trumps numbers are cratering and they are running out of ideas for a distraction from their poorly run campaign.

In this particular case, looks to be a sports betting website just looking for the publicity to drive up numbers. They gained 20K+ followers in a few hours.

Just took a spin through those twitter accounts. They are by far the stupidest lot of people I have run across in quite a while.

Hey Jackson. You are aware this is a political forum right? This is a Presidential election year with Trump as one of the candidates right?

So Dorothy, Kasich and Pecker at the Enquirer are the ones peddling the Cruz sleeps around garbage? That's interesting.

Dunno, just talked to Dan Rather, he says it seems very fake but accurate.

Come on y'all. We have a lot of eyes on this thread because it is being used to debunk people passing the hoax along. Lets make sure it represents the best of this site.

Update on this. The girl whose photo was used in that fake twitter account is having her life destroyed because of it. (I still see people passing around the fake screenshots on twitter and facebook).

Quote
DePaul student unexpectedly tangled in alleged Ted Cruz sex scandal

A DePaul student was unexpectedly caught in the middle of a short-lived political scandal. Her picture was used to help spread a rumor about a presidential candidate that wasn't true.

Samantha Rivera said her phone was ringing so much it woke her up Wednesday morning. There were also texts and emails asking her if she had an affair with a presidential candidate. The journalism major at DePaul says nothing she learned in public relations classes prepared her for this.

Rivera's profile picture is at the center of an alleged sex scandal involving Republican Presidential Candidate Ted Cruz.

Rivera said someone used her picture and created a fake Twitter account claiming to be someone named Jennifer Carr, a writer for the Los Angeles Times. Carr isn't real, but whoever created the Twitter account tweeted that she was a mistress of the Texas senator.

Wow, fake accounts......who'd ever do something like that? The internet is swimming in outright lies,  false information, disinformation and misinformation. We've reached the point now where even what we see with our own eyes can't be believed. It must be corroborated.
