I wonder how the riders feel after one of those waves come crashing down on them driving them into and along the ocean's bottom.

The location named "Mavericks" is near Santa Cruz, CA and it took one life of an experienced big wave guy named Mark Foo.

There is a full length videography of Mavericks. I read a book about it. It goes along with several of the other big wave locations, only "discovered" for surfing with the advent of "tow in" methods for catching the waves.

Navarre Portugal is the place with a record wave that was surfed by an American. Real men ride huge waves in very cold water. Like skiing in front of an avalanche.

I did my share of foolish things in my youth, but that is insanity or a death wish.
