The 33%...

Only 3 in 10 Americans believe that the nation’s process for electing a new president is functional, a record low, according to a new poll. Some 66 percent believe that the system is broken, a Gallup survey released Friday found, while 4 percent had no opinion.

Dunno, but I'm sure that with our combined intellect we could figure out something better. I refuse to believe this is the best we can do.

What's the alternative?

Fixing the primary system.  Both parties could do it, and it would go a long way to making it a clean nominating process.
Character still matters.  It always matters.

I wear a mask as an exercise in liberty and love for others.  To see it as an infringement of liberty is to entirely miss the point.  Be kind.

System right now is voting. Not sure how that could be improved upon. Maybe make everything proportional?

One thing though, it'd be nice to have all primaries on the same day so this process doesn't drag out...

That's how England does it. I think it's a good idea. Getting money out of politics would help too. You limit the field tremendously when you either need to be in bed with the establishment or a billionaire to get noticed enough to have a chance. I also think we should trash the electoral college. People are discouraged from voting when they know their state will definitely go the opposite color. Electing by popular vote would increase voter turnout.

It is a horrible process and takes way too long.

One BIG complaint I have and others who live in states that don't have Primaries until May.  We in WA don't get the chance to vote for our favorite candidate, maybe even somebody we donated money to. By the time the election reaches us, states like IOWA and New Hampshire of all places have eliminated our candidate.

I think it should be a 2-stage event.   1st Stage - Separate Primaries over 4-weeks.   East Coast, Mid West, Mountains, Pacific Coast - and by popular vote the top 4 candidates square off for the delegate race, which is the 2nd stage. This time the Pacific coast goes first.  Election 2020 the order would be reversed.

Dubious claim. There's more and more evidence that money doesn't accomplish much anymore in politics. Bush spent $150 million and got nowhere.

The electoral college has good functionality, for example, balancing out extreme population centers.

We don't need more people voting, we need better voters.

When's the last time somebody won without many millions of dollars?

I think the people need more control over the system, and I think removing the electoral college would be a good step in that direction.

Ok, what do you propose we do about it?

People already control the system through elections. LIke I said, we don't need more voters we need better voters.

Properly educating voters would be a good start.

Publicly fund elections like England and many other European countries.

People already control the system

I do not want my tax dollars going to elections.

A small price to pay to improve democracy.

I guess you missed the point.

Democracy is overrated. 3 wolves and 1 sheep voting on what's for dinner.

I don't respond to people who think a Batman movie is a serious argument.

Democracy is overrated.

It's better than kings and oligarchs.
