The shock revelations come from the Australian government minister Darren Chester, who claims that a Malaysian investigation team is investigating two pieces of debris that were consistent with the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 jet.

The aircraft disappeared in March 2014 and debris is believed to be the panels from the plane, according to the minister.

Mr Chester said: “The analysis has concluded the debris is almost certainly from MH370.”

The MH370 flight had 239 passengers and crew on board and took off from Kuala Lumpur, bound for Beijing.

Mr Chester said the location – the east African coast – is also consistent with where pieces could be found if the missing plane did indeed crash.

The pieces were discovered in Mozambique by South African teenager Liam Lotter and American Blaine Gibson.

The Lotter family found one piece in December, last year, and thought nothing of it until Mr Gibson found a second piece three months later.

A piece of the Rolls Royce logo has also been found on the coast of South Africa and is also suspected to be from the MH370 flight.

Malaysian officials said they will examine the objects to see if it is from the plane.

Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said: “Based on early reports, there is a possibility of the piece originating from an inlet cowling of an aircraft engine.”

The fate of the plane, its passengers and crew remains one of the biggest unsolved mysteries.

A number of plane parts have washed up in the area since its disappearance but none have been categorically linked to the missing jet.

Haven't they found the wreckage in about six different parts of the world at this point?

It may be wreckage that floats, and so has floated far, far away from the actual crash site.
