Student rape investigated at Obama daughters’ private school

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Police are investigating an alleged rape at Sidwell Friends School, the elite D.C. private school President Obama’s daughters attend.
sidwellfriendsA female Sidwell student told police she was forced by a male classmate to engage in vaginal, oral and anal sex at the school’s Northwest campus Wednesday afternoon, NBC Washington reports.
The 17-year-old student reported the alleged assault to police around 11 p.m. and said the attack occurred around 2:30 p.m. The girl told police she previously had a sexual relationship with her 16-year-old attacker, but the incident Wednesday was not consensual, according to WJLA.
Police have not yet made any arrests.
School spokesman Ellis Turner issued a generic statement about the allegations.
“It is the longstanding policy of Sidwell Friends School to cooperate fully with any law enforcement investigation,” it read. “It is also our policy not to comment on such investigations.”
The prestigious private college prep school enrolls about 1,149 students and many are the children of the “global elite,” including both of president’s Obama’s daughters, the New York Daily News reports.
Presidents Clinton, Nixon, Roosevelt, and numerous U.S. politicians and foreign dignitaries have sent their children to Sidwell Friends School, where tuition is roughly $37,000 a year.
Obama’s oldest daughter Maila is a senior at Sidwell, and his younger daughter Sasha attends as a freshman.
Obama announced just a couple of weeks ago that he’ll likely keep his family in Washington, D.C. after his term ends in January, so Sasha can finish her studies at the school, the Daily News reports.
Obama told reporters in Milwaukee earlier this month that the family hasn’t yet figured out where they will live after his presidency, but “We’re going to have to stay a couple of years so Sasha can finish school,” according to the news site.
“Transferring someone in the middle of high school,” Obama said, can be “tough.”
