He was arrested for “deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs.” The question of whether or not Islam really is a “ticking time bomb of terror” was not addressed.
These kinds of laws are coming to the West, under the guise of “hate speech” laws, which are coming in under the increasingly familiar slogan “Hate speech is not free speech.” The question of who gets to determine what is hate speech and what isn’t is not, of course, addressed. If Hegde really said that Islam should be “eradicated,” he should clarify exactly how he proposes to do such a thing, and his proposal should be rejected if it involves any form of violence. Immediately prosecuting him for saying that “Islam is a ticking time bomb of terror,” however, only postpones the necessary discussion that free societies are going to have to have sooner or later, about whether Islam is a ticking time bomb of terror. Meanwhile, the Islamic jihad bombs will continue to go off.

Bengaluru: Ananth Kumar Hegde, BJP MP from Uttara Kannada termed Islam “ticking time bomb of terror”. After this remark which hurt the religious sentiments of the Muslims, a case was registered against him yesterday.
According to the news published in Indian Express, in a press meeting held in Sirsi, Karnataka on Sunday, Hegde had allegedly termed Islam “ticking time bomb of terror” which needed to be eradicated. He is said to have accused presspersons of helping terrorists by airing views of JNU student, Umar Khalid’s father, a former member of the banned SIMI.
Sirsi Police registered a case against Hegde on a complaint filed by Luqmaan Bantwal, vice-president of the Dakshina Kannada unit of the Indian Youth Congress under Section 295(A) of IPC for “deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs’’.
