I have spoken to Jews who were there and lived through it. The reason Jews were able to live through the currency crash is because they did not trust banks at the time, or currency. Jews tended to convert cash holdings into gold and precious stones as a matter of routine. When the currency crashed and Jews were more or less unaffected, the non-Jewish Germans became extremely angry. So Hitler telling the population that Jews were involved in a conspiracy was readily received by the population.
@240B Also, let's not forget that the Jews with real money were smart enough to send the gold and precious stones,as well as some of the cash,to Jewish banks outside of Germany to either invest for them,or hold in savings accounts.
As I have written earlier, one of THE prime lessons that taught them to do this was the experience the prominent Jewish banking families had in England. Remember,at THIS time the Catholic Church decreed that no Christian could loan money and get paid interest. Primarily because the Catholic Church didn't like competition.
I THINK this was during the term of William the Conquerer, but am probably wrong. I DO remember these bankers had lent the King the money he needed to form up an army to invade coastal France because that is where his family originally came from, and in HIS mind,he still owned it. The invasion was successful, but I have forgotten for how long. The French obviously took it back at some point.
Anyhow, the Jewish bankers that lent this money agreed to lend it,but a condition was that the King send them AND the money to Europe, where they would establish new banks. The day came and the bankers and their families were escorted aboard the ships along with the gold and jewels they received in payment, and everybody waved as they sailed off into the English Channel, and eventually,Europe.
The thing is what really happened was the ship sailed out of sight of land, waited for a low tide, and left the Jewish bankers and their families stranded on a sand bar to drown when the tide returned.
Which may be why and how the French were able to retake Normandy. There is NO way something like that can be kept secret, and someone or someones from the crew told the tale.
MY guess is the English settlers on the French coast had a tough time borrowing money for crops,to build houses, etc, etc, etc, and the French Royalty had no trouble at all when it came to raising money to run the English off. However,I do NOT remember ever reading about when or how this happened. This is just my best guess.
