One of two reasons that children are not being taught to read and write cursive...

@Smokin Joe

I'm curious. How do these people sign their names on paychecks,documents,driver licenses,etc,etc,etc?

Any identifiable scribble will do.  I long ago got tired of writing my whole name out whenever I signed anything (three names, two of them long-ish), so I eventually shortened it to an idiosyncratic combination of my first and last initials.  It's quite clearly my mark, and is valid as my signature.

Many of them are used to doing the finger on the touch screen thing, that amounts to little more than "his mark".
For all the decades of education, we're back to putting the equivalent of an 'X' on documents. Some print. Legible signatures are rare.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
