Well heck @AllThatJazzZ You and I may be personally acquainted. I only missed one Republican state convention in Texas between 1988 and 2014 (My daughter was in the hospital).
As to Dan Patrick (not his birth name), I have known him since the days he was the weatherman on channel 11 in Houston and painted himself blue for Oilers football games. He and his longtime partner, former state senator Mike Richards bought the then nearly defunct KSEV, changed the format to talk and that was that. Both are still friends of mine and, if you are a long-time listener, you have heard me on there many times.
@Bigun I'm sure I heard you as I was a long-time listener. You undoubtedly always imparted great wisdom when you called.
Do you remember Re-Joyce? (That was the nickname Mike Richards gave her because she had such a kind, loving way about her.) I think her name was Joyce Smith. I can't remember the name of her ministry, but I know she helped troubled girls. I remember her telling Mike that there is no hatred like the hatred from one black to another if they dare to step off the plantation. She used to get extremely abusive calls after she called in to the show. I did have the privilege of meeting her and some gals from FR. We had lunch at some Mexican restaurant in Montrose. As I expected, she was a delightful, intelligent woman.
I have always wondered what happened to Mike Richards after his show went off the air. I really did like him. And then there was Jon Matthews who turned out to be a perv.
I loved the years when we had the option of listening to Maha-Rushie real time (950 AM) or a replay later in the day (700 AM).
I remember Dan as sportscaster. While I was a HUGE Oilers fan, I never painted myself Columbia blue. I dressed tastefully in Oiler attire, but I did enjoyed the crazies who went all out to show their Oiler devotion.
You know Dan and Mike personally?
P.S. Read the article if you have time. Fair warning: it's a little long. It gives the history of his career and the radio stations.
