I've developed the habit of not discussing anything seriously with a liberal as it is very much like teaching a pig to sing.

It irritates the pig, to boot.

I'd be very hard pressed to hire a hard left engineer even with a great resume. Engineering is reality based. You can't bend reality and have a successful outcome. People who are seriously disconnected from reality in one area are likely disconnected in other areas as well.
It also would tend to point away from hiring people with any delusional traits, and Leftist politics are a slippery slope in that direction. Mother nature may harbor biodiversity, but physics is (are?) unforgiving.

Engineers are mostly introverts, so many of them would rather blend in with the woodwork
and not make any waves.

Politics has lots of waves, so why study it.

I gave up being an introvert as that seemed the path to no influence nor results. I did buck
things at my company and thus was noticed by our president. He promoted me. A five pay
grade advance from a run of the mill engineer to a operations department head.

Years later I found out that he bucked the system from his first year.
It takes guts to be the only person in the room who is right and to not "go along to get along''
Consensus shares the responsibility for failure unless someone is the designated whipping boy.
But for someone to rationally stand against (or in favor) of something against the flow is vital to progress, and can save lives and money in the end.

It used to disgust me, but now I am amused at the way people who finally embrace the very concepts they fought long and hard against will try to take credit for them in retrospect.

You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.
Rational fear and anger at vicious murderous Islamic terrorists is the same as irrational antisemitism, according to the Leftists.

That was one of the things Dad taught me. Stand up. For a 9th grade education, he became smarter when I was 20
and more so when I was 30. That continued even after he passed. He let me learn at my own pace.

I always spoke up. I directly opposed the head at our nuclear plant. Same thing with our new owners
from Cleveland. I spoke up and took the consequences. My track record was good and it had to be
in order to influence those important issues affecting my department, engineering, my company, and
my personal life. It turned out that I knew more than 90% of those around me. I had saved two years
salary so, I was brave.

I did save lives. We had several men caught in a downtown vault. Under the grates you see on downtown
sidewalks. One of the men made an error and caused a short circuit. The only exit was above the fault.
One man crawled up in the smoke and unlocked another exit. He died about a week later. He had also
been a WWII hero. I reviewed the settings and submitted them to an old boss in relay settings. He sent
them out under his name.

Cleveland taught me about liars. They had excellent liars, but they had tells that I could read. They did have
talented people but way too many. Competition between them ate up the advantages.

My goal was to be head of engineering. Something I didn't attain. I knew my best route was to start
my own company, but the thought of poverty restrained me.

Our company had a magnificent buy out program, and I took it to retire at age 50. The offer was an intelligence
test. About 95% took it. I left with nearly 6 years salary and invested it instead of taking a pension.

My life has exceeded my wildest expectations. I have always made my employer money and lots of it.
The majority of bosses saw that I was compensated well. Not the whole nine yards, but quite well.

Again thanks for all the comments/advice.

@Cyber Liberty

If he has always been far left and you knew this,WTH is he your friend?

After all,the SOB wants to destroy America and imprison or execute people like us. If he says he doesn't,he is either a liar or a fool, and once again the question MUST be asked "WHY are you good friends with someone you know to be a liar and a fool?
When I lived up north I had a good friend (female) who was an English teacher and a leftist. We rarely if ever discussed politics, but when we did we were both very respectful. Politics was one of the few things we disagreed on. The entire staff was complaining about how the after school detention system. The Principal said if the staff could come up with a better system it would be implemented. She and I sat down after work one day and came up with a plan. We took it to the Principal and he let the two of us run it.
In a time of universal deceit - telling the truth is a revolutionary act.
More than any other time in history, mankind faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly.-Woody Allen
If God invented marathons to keep people from doing anything more stupid, the triathlon must have taken him completely by surprise.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
