Nothing says “outsider” and “change agent” like hiring Mitch McConnell’s campaign manager, the mildly corrupt Jesse Benton, to run a Donald Trump super PAC.

A pro-Donald Trump super PAC has tapped Jesse Benton, a veteran Republican operative with ties to Rand Paul and Mitch McConnell, to serve as its chief strategist.

The move is the latest indication that the super PAC, dubbed Great America PAC, is developing into a serious organization — one looking to buttress Trump in the final stretch of the Republican primary and, potentially, the general election.

“There is a growing movement behind Donald Trump, bringing new voters to the GOP in an unprecedented way,” Benton wrote in an email. “Great America PAC will help grow and harness that movement, unify Republicans and work to win not just the White House, but to also lengthen Mr. Trump’s coattails in races across the America.”

Benton, 38, is a prominent figure in Republican politics. Earlier this election season, he oversaw a pro-Rand Paul super PAC. In 2014, he served as a top aide on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s reelection bid. In 2012, he helped to guide Sen. Ron Paul’s presidential bid. He also was top aide on Paul’s 2010 Senate bid.

Be prepared to endure an onslaught of denials from Trump that he countenances this organization. The best story is that his lawyers made the organization change it’s original name from TrumPAC. This is totally bullsh**. Before TrumPAC even formed the FEC had ruled it was illegal for a Super PAC to use a candidate’s name in its title.

As I’ve noted, repeatedly, (here | here | here) ultimately Donald Trump will be the preferred candidate of the GOP Establishment. He’s the guy who has single-handedly turned the principled party of Ronald Reagan into “Let’s Make A Deal.” Because he believes in nothing and will deal on everything he is the guy the Chamber Commerce, or any other crony capitalist or rent-seeking group, can turn to for their pet projects.

Bringing a consummate GOP political consultant on board is a sign that when the GOP establishment is ultimately confronted with the choice of Ted Cruz and Donald Trump, they will take Donald Trump.

----

That should end the Neil Bush talk. Benton was also involved in some shady shenanigans here in Iowa during the Ron Paul campaign in '12.
The Republic is lost.

Red State is a know propaganda outlet who has a long track record of making accusation at Trump and then quietly moving on when their accusation is proven a lie.

Unless you can find a  2nd source to verify independently,  this can be dismissed as yet another pathetic smear job by the bloggers  at RedState

It Red State. As soon as you see that you ignore it unless it is independently confirmed. They are such shameless liars not even MSNBC uses them as a source now.

I am not surprised. Politics is about change, adaptation, reality, power etc.

This guy is a political professional operative. I knew one several years ago, and like Dick Morris he worked for both Republicans and for Democrats.

And PACs are presumably independent. So he can form a PAC without Trump's approval, and can run ads favorable to Trump, unfavorable to Trump's opponents.

That is politics. Don't try to analyze it, justify it, with lofty morality and principles.

Politics is first and foremost self-serving and pragmatic. If you follow it as a hobby you already know that.

  • Cats rule. Dogs drool.
Yet when a lawyer who worked for McConnell's re-election campaign runs a Cruz PAC, it's evidence of a conspiracy.

Got it.

Pro-Trump PAC hires GOP veteran as strategist

This is rich.  So much for the Neil Bush nonsense.

Trump is now, officially, establishment.

Good grief, have you anti-Trumpsters finally gone off the deep end? Was it the Carson endorsement?

"Trump has a super pack?  So he is bought and paid for?"

"Trump is now, officially, establishment."

Did you even bother to read what Truth_seeker posted and, I dunno, reflect on it for a second or two?

Btw Truth_seeker, these people are not trying to analyze this with anything remotely resembling "lofty morality and principles."

Members of the anti-Trump cabal: Now that Mr Trump has sewn up the nomination, I want you to know I feel your pain.
