The Briefing Room Member Passing
« on: March 05, 2016, 12:18:39 am »
Do any of you close knit folks, the ones that go way back together, or even the new friends you have met here have a Tontine type pledge to celebrate your passing ?  That would be cool.

"To Comrades through thick and thin and everything in between.  Bottoms up!"

In any case.. Lets say you went room temp.... would someone post up on your behalf and let people know you passed on to the great reward?

Just wondering....

I wasn't planning on going anywhere any time soon, unless ofcourse, you know something I don't.

Yes...we are a close knit group and some of us go way back..kinda an extended family....We have lost a few people here who were dear to me and I miss them.

I'm quite certain Mrs. Lando would post something, as would myst.

I've told my son Adam to let the group know....so it's covered.

I told my husband to post about me too.  Now, whether he will remember to do it - I don't know!

Back in 01 about 50 of us got booted from big web national site for being a distruptive element.  Banned and being homeless such as we were....three of us started a new place for the outcasts. We thrived for years.  But to make a long story short......
As time went by, members drifted off.   Those of us left at the site split the hosting yearly web hosting fees.

Coupe of weeks ago one of the originals passed on.   His wife logged on and let us know.    Never met him in person.  But we knew him like a brother.

I used to be a big poster in a Usenet group.  Alt.sports.baseball.balt-orioles back in the mid 90's.

When usenet groups went extinct, I lost track of them.

The other day on Facebook, I recognized one of the names of the regulars, and sent him a PM.

This week we had a reunion of sorts...all the guys came on to a thread where I responded and it's like old times.

One guy is a major writer for ESPN today...in baseball.  Dan Szymborski.

Back then he was just a kid.

It's so cool to see my old nemesis and his gang after almost 20 years.  And to put faces with names.

Very very Nice.  Glad you all reconnected.

You connected by sports with those guys. Cool.    Our groups connection was cars via Edmunds.com back in 98.

Picking up the tangent..

I am a sometimes participant in a Green Bay Packers forum. Recently, one of the regulars passed suddenly and unexpectedly. The outpouring of grief was very real. Several learned the details and went to the services.
