Tim Scott, Only Black GOP Senator, Blasts Trump Over KKK

"If Donald Trump can't take a stand against the KKK, we cannot trust him to stand up for America..."

Tim Scott, a Republican senator from South Carolina, criticized Donald Trump's unwillingness to denounce the Ku Klux Klan Sunday.

"Any candidate who cannot immediately condemn a hate group like the KKK does not represent the Republican Party, and will not unite it," said Scott in a statement. "If Donald Trump can't take a stand against the KKK, we cannot trust him to stand up for America against Putin, Iran or ISIS."

While Trump may be unresponsive to questions about the KKK, the group and its forebears are well-known throughout American history as racist organizations that used violence and terrorism throughout the South against Jews, Catholics, and other minorities, but in particular against blacks.

Scott is the first black American of either party elected to the U.S. Senate from a former Confederate state since Reconstruction, a period which was followed by large-scale discrimination against blacks in the South. That discrimination was at many times enforced by the KKK's terror tactics.

Scott has endorsed for president Marco Rubio, who also denounced Trump Sunday, along with fellow presidential candidate and senator Ted Cruz.
Roy Moore's "spiritual warfare" is driving past a junior high without stopping.
