"He actually said some very nice things about me at a recent cocktail party. I was told by somebody and I thought that was very nice," Trump said.

As The Daily Wire has reported, de Blasio has actually been quite dangerous for New York, since he is a far-left ideologue who has overseen a dramatic spike in violent crime in the city. Trump seemed to overlook de Blasio's past support for the communist Sandinistas simply because he supposedly praised Trump.

    Fred Dicker: What is it going to mean for Donald Trump to have Bill de Blasio as Mayor?”

    Donald Trump: “He’s a smart guy that knows what’s going on really big league and I think he is not going to want to destroy New York.”

    Voice Over: That was Donald Trump a little over two years ago, endorsing PC Socialist Bill de Blasio for New York Mayor.

    Donald Trump: “I think pretty strongly that he’ll end up being a good mayor, maybe a very good mayor.”

    Voice Over: De Blasio ran on class warfare, sanctuary cities and ending stop and frisk. De Blasio’s sided with looters and cop killers against the police, with teachers unions against schoolchildren and with PC liberals to let the homeless run wild on city streets.

    Donald Trump: “I think he is going to want to make New York great.”

    Voice Over: So just why did Trump endorse Bill de Blasio?

    Donald Trump: "He actually said some very nice things about me at a recent cocktail party I was told by somebody and I thought that was very nice."

How long ago was De Blasio running for NYC mayor? 

Was Trump's endorsement announced  before his POTUS run?

hint:  Anyone involved in politics in NYC gets involved in NYC mayoral races.

Yes, we all know that Trump has "evolved" since his POTUS run.   He's no longer giving money and endorsements to Democrats and socialists, no longer cheering Planned Parenthood and socialized medicine.   

He's the new, reliably conservative Donald Trump.  He'll be whatever you want him to be - if you say nice things about him.   

Trump and P.T. Barnum adhere to the same philosophy - there's a new sucker born every minute.

Bill de Blasio won his race against Joe Lhota, 73.15% to 24.31%.

Joe Lhota (it was a suicide mission) never stood a chance. He was a woefully inadequate candidate up against the darling Bill de Blasio:




Lhota (in red) won Staten Island. That's it.

So, how would things have changed had Trump endorsed the worst candidate republicans ever put up in NYC?

The Bushes are on record saying nice things about the Clintons after they left office. What does that signify? Nothing. It does not change the feelings of affection George W Bush supporters have for him.

I'm not a political scientist, but I don't think guilt by association has ever derailed a presidential candidate. I'm sure someone will start googling and show me to be wrong...but, whatever  :shrug:

This isn't "guilt by association".   This is an endorsement of an uber-liberal candidate for Mayor of NYC.  It's just one more piece of evidence that Trump's a chameleon - unmoored and unprincipled.

But so long as he keeps scratching that itch, redder and rawer,  the Trumpsters will keep leaning in.

I am convinced that there is no "bridge too far," and that Trump supporters will defend everything he does, or at the very least try to say that "everyone does it."  (Like the weirdly irrelevant photo of GHWBush, Ford and Clinton).

Damn straight. Those workers at the Taj Mahal, Trump Plaza Hotel in New York, the Trump Plaza Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, the Trump Castle Casino Resort, Trump Riverboat in IN paying tons in taxes. At least the ones still with jobs because all those places went into bankruptcy and we are all stuck with the bill on that through higher prices from vendors/banks recouping losses.

Really? Check the bankruptcy court records. When you do you'll be surprised at how many of the hundreds of big, well known companies that have filed for chapter 11 reorganization and came out of it stronger and to this day providing goods and services and pumping dollars into the economy, just like Donald Trump. And all without being demonized by hair on fire pipsqueaks.
