I won't wear a tux - it's a sign of privilege: Socialist Bernie reveals no-dressing up for inaugural ball will be his first act as left-wing president

'I'll probably get myself in a lot of trouble right now...and my wife disagrees with me no doubt, but a tux is kind of a symbol of class privilege'
Sanders doesn't own a tux and doesn't plan to buy one even if he's elected
'It says "Hey, I'm really important and I'm fancy, and you know, you're something else." That's all,' Sanders said during an interview

Bernie Sanders doesn't own a tux nor does he plan to buy one, even if he's elected to the White House.

'I'll probably get myself in a lot of trouble right now...and my wife disagrees with me no doubt, but a tux is kind of a symbol of class privilege,' he told Good Morning America's Robin Roberts.

He won't even wear one to his inaugural balls, the senator told Roberts.

'It says "Hey, I'm really important and I'm fancy, and you know, you're something else." That's all.'

And a suit and tie isn't? (Albeit, his look like they come from KMart).

Maybe we can play, who can spot the gold, Swiss watch?

More importantly, will there be a Bong Tent at Bernie's inaugural?

I doubt that this is the whole picture, but:

What is Bernie Sanders’ Net Worth?
Tom Gerencer - Money Nation

Net Worth

Bernie Sanders’ net worth is $528,014. Our Bernie Sanders net worth calculations come from analyzing his U.S. Senate financial disclosure forms.

U.S. Senators aren’t required to disclose their exact net worth. The closest anyone can get to Bernie Sanders’ net worth is to dig through disclosure forms and do the math. Since senators report assets and debts within preset ranges, finding Bernie Sanders’ net worth means averaging reported max and min figures.

In August of 2015, Bernie Sanders reported net worth assets at a minimum of $187,026 and a max of $759,004. Sanders also owns a condominium in Vermont valued at about $100,000. He has debts of at least $25,002 and as much as $65,000.

Figuring Sanders’ maximum possible debt and minimum possible assets gives a minimum possible Bernie Sanders net worth of $222,026. Figuring lowest possible debt and highest possible assets gives a net worth a high as $769,002. Combining average assets with average debt gives an average Bernie Sanders net worth of $528,014.
I'm sure Men's Wearhouse could rent him a suit for a hundred bucks or so. He could buy one for $230.

thank you for that info. I have seen that amount tossed around ever since he said he was running for prez.

here are more links for his info.

Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) ranks 85th in the Senate with an estimated net worth* of $429,004 in 2010.

http://www.opensecrets.org/pfds/summary.php?cid=N00000528&year=2010  this is from 2010 so he may just be worth 500k?

Unless that doesn't count protected retirement accounts like IRAs or 401Ks, that's actually pretty sad for someone his age and his income bracket and indicates lack of financial acumen or planning.

Well, yeah. His platform pretty much confirms that suspicion.

Hey, I can sympathize with Bernie on this one.

The last time I put on a tie was in 1979. I'd gotten a paralegal degree and thought I might have to dress for the job (a possibility I hated). Fortunately, got a chance to hire out as a fireman on the railroad, and I didn't want to have to work for lawyers, anyway.

I put the tie in the closet and never used it again (it was the only one I owned).
Haven't worn one since.
Won't attempt to put one on again.

If in 2017 President Trump calls me to the White House, I'll walk up to the gate in blue jeans and a work shirt.
If they don't like it, too bad. They don't have to let me in.

I wonder if President Sanders would...?  ;)

I worked for GSK in Big Pharma for 3 years as a Respiratory Sales Rep and had to wear a suit every day.  I hated it and would take it off immediately when I got home each night.  Layoffs were coming and I actually volunteered for the buyout of one year's salary plus bonuses from the previous year.  I've worn a suit twice since then, once for a funeral and once for a wedding.  I haven't worn one for work since, although I do wear sport coats at times if it's chilly.
Trump has created a cult and looks more and more like Hitler every day.

Corbyn has revived memories of Michael Foot over here. This is not a good thing. The Bern is just getting the backlash.  :tongue2:

Who actually asked Bernie to wear a tux? He sounds like the people who give up something for Lent that they never eat anyway.  ^-^
