Giuliani Calls Trump a Friend As He Weighs Endorsement
« on: January 24, 2016, 03:39:48 am »
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani just made a major decision to switch law firms, but the one-time GOP presidential contender says he’s still weighing an even tougher choice: whom to back in the 2016 race.

“It is really very hard. I have four very good friends running for president,” Giuliani told CQ Roll Call on Wednesday. “Donald Trump has been my friend for 25 years; our families know each other.”

Giuliani said he’s also close with former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, as the two have campaigned for each other over the years, and with Sen. Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican. He called New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie “like a brother.”

“I’m going to make an endorsement the morning I wake up and have come to a conclusion on who can beat Hillary Clinton,” Giuliani said.

I loved Giuliani as mayor. He transformed NYC from a dingy crime ridden place to one of the safest big cities in America. He's very much in the mold of Donald Trump.

Giuliani was a tough hands-on manager. He started the day early with briefings, showed up everywhere at all departments, talked to the workers, asked questions. He cleaned up corruption. Exactly the style of management skills Donald Trump employs. I hope he does endorse Trump. That should help shake things out in this race.

And he took down some Mafia big shots, with Rico laws.

Giuliani was a fantastic mayor,  and I think I voted for him in the primary when he ran for President.

The reasons folks oppose Trump have nothing to do with his alleged managerial competence.   This election is about more than believing that One Man can make the trains run on time.

Again, the headline is BS. Looking at the article, any one of four names could have been in there with equal merit - so they went with Trump.

Am getting rather tired of this. We praised the alt media as a whip and watchdog to the MSM when it started gaining traction. Now it's worse than they are.

Maybe I missed it ...and maybe it's the obvious ... but do you live there or are you making an outside observation?

I moved back to NYC in 1994 after a 23 year absence (in California).

When I came back, it was to mayor Dinkins' New York City. Rudy Giuliani was inaugurated January 1, 1994, so I got to see the transformation first hand.

It was astonishing. Giuliani operated under the "broken windows" theory of crime. Addressing the littlest of crimes deters the big crimes. He quickly achieved a dramatic cut in murder rate. Then, quality-of-life crimes and squeegee guy problems--gone! He instituted community policing, a fancy way of saying putting cops on the street – not in patrol cars.

He spearheaded the transformation of Times Square from sleezy porn shops to a world-class family friendly tourist destination.

The republican Giuliani won in an overwhelming democrat city by promising 2-3 things. He kept it simple and he kept repeating those two or three things. That's why I say Giuliani and Trump are similar. Trump has three core principles he is hammering: immigration, national security, and jobs. Ronald Ragan also kept it simple when he campaigned. A simple, clear, easy to understand message always wins out.

Ok.  So you are a New Yorker...kind of thought so.  Coincidentally, my chiropractor here is from NY.  Never lost the accent ... gotta love the accent!

I've worked 23 years to develop a cool California surfer accent. I'm not about to give it up for a new yaulk accent.

Yeah, so what. He isn't pure conservative, enough. He is a "rino" and he might occasionally even God forbid, compromise.

You've been right all along about ideological purity. It took a candidate like Donald Trump to rally enough Americans to support him to demonstrate that strong leadership can win the day over doctrinaire conservatism. Yes, there are more conservative candidates in the GOP field, but no candidate with stronger leadership qualities than Donald Trump.

Donald Trump doesn't check off all the conservative boxes but, the three core principles are there: immigration, national security and jobs. And right now, that's looking awfully good to a great number of people across the political spectrum who are in love with, oops, who are supporters of Trump.

You just covered at least 85% of the national economy.

I certainly don't 'love' Donald Trump.  He would not be my first pick if there was another Republican running whom I respected and whom  I thought had at least a chance of securing the swing vote.

Donald Trump is the ONLY one that can do that.
