Cruz Says It's Me or Trump

Watch: Cruz Says It's Me Or Trump

GOP presidential candidate and Iowa frontrunner Ted Cruz pushed back against Donald Trump during an interview in NH tonight.

Cruz suggested that Trumps’ ceaseless questioning of Cruz’s eligibility for the presidency this week “starts to suggest maybe he’s feeling a little rattled.” He also stated that the race for the GOP nomination is increasingly a two man contest between himself and Mr. Trump, and that is why the GOP candidates are starting to attack Mr. Cruz’s candidacy.

Cruz also discussed his tax plan, a 10% flat tax on all individuals that will abolish the IRS, and his faith, which he “will not apologize for.”

Erick Erickson was saying on his radio show last night that he had conversations with a number of differnt campaigns and this relects what they are telling him is going on in Iowa. If they attack Cruz, Trump goes up, if they attack Trump, Cruz goes up.

It is pretty much over unless either Cruz or Trump majorly steps on a political landmine based on the polling.

NOW, the question remains, how off is the polling?

I'm sure by now most of you see how conflicted I am. Ted Cruz or Donald Trump, love them both. With either in the Oval Office, American exceptionalism wins!

My solution? would be a twofer: both candidates on the same ticket.

I cannot imagine Donald Trump as VP.  I can imagine Cruz as VP.  Aside from their records and positions on issues, what does that suggest about which of these two men has the public persona to lead the country?

This is by no means an endorsement of Trump, mind you.  Just saying.

Also, I can't help but think about the possibility that we might be looking at Trump vs Sanders in the Fall.  If so, would every viable centrist from both parties resist the temptation to try a third party run?

Goes without saying. Everything from their ages to their personality. I don't know the etiology or the genesis in Trump's case, but Trump demonstrated early in life that he was the alpha male.

It would be telling and remarkable if both parties rejected their establishment candidates.  Nothing like that since the late 1850's to 1860.  I have trouble thinking of a viable centrist nationally that could run against the two outsiders.  There are many regional candidates but no one I can see with national impact.  Hillary, ironically, might come the closest but I don't see a twice vanquished Hillary carrying on third party.  For the Republicans, only Jeb Bush (or perhaps the oddity of Mitt Romney again) has that kind of money available and as much as he dislikes the front runners, he has to see that he's chasing a fool's errand - he is not connecting with really any audience at all.  The one thing I could see happen, if the "establishments" decided to get in the game and not just sit out a Sanders-Trump contest, would be an agreement to put two "third party" candidates in, making it a four way race (like 1860).  One third party candidate would likely end up like John Anderson...two, however, in a melee where a theoretical 25% makes you competitive?  Now that might be something to see.

Given how difficult,  and ultra long a long shot, a viable third party run is on a national scale, any viable centrist would be better off to start laying the ground work for 2020 rather then waste their money and time in 2016. If it Sanders Vrs Trump it is going to be the year of the "angry political bases" and not a year a centrist will do well in.

I could deal with a Trump victory even though I don't see him as a conservative.  I would much rather see Hillary win the DEM nomination than Sanders as I think she would be much easier to beat. All in all, I shudder and am actually fearful of what a Sanders presidency would bring to this country and the actual implications of seating a self-proclaimed known socialist.  Regardless if it is Bernie or Hillary, we will lose our Republic and our sovereignty and our way of life as we now enjoy it.  Our Constitution will be shredded and become meaningless.

As for a Trump/Cruz ticket, I just don't see that happening right now.  To much emphasis on Cruz' eligibility which would also make him ineligible for the VP spot.  Time will tell of course and it will be interesting to see what happens if Trump loses won of the early primaries to Cruz.

I still very strongly feel, that Cruz would turn this country in positive direction and send the Washington Kingmakers packing.

As for running 3rd party -- I think it's a little late to get on the ballots in all 50 states at this point in time.

I can't imagine Cruz agreeing to be anything under Trump after this.  And, how would Trump justify having Cruz as his VP when Trump says that Cruz isn't eligible to be Pres?  I guess Trump would just authoritatively flip-flop.

I seem to recall that Bush Sr. and Reagan duked it out pretty heartily during the 1980 Republican primary season, but still managed to run as a team.   You know what they say about strange bedfellows, and all that.

No Offense Liberty BUT what in his positions that are not CONSRVATIVE:

Border enforcement and stopping illegal alien influx, to include enforcement of current law!

Refusing the TPP anti US Worker deal.

Elimination of  Common Core federalization of education standards

Repeal of Obamacare and replacement with common sense, structural healthcare  insurance reforms like allow selling across state lines all carriers.

Getting back to FISCAL discipline, back to actually using the budget process and putting the national fiscal policy back to solvency.

Taking care of out VETS with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Keeping the guns in the hands of law bidding citizens and focus on getting them out of the hands of the criminals.

What about the above is not CONSERVATIVE?  :patriot:

I think with the growing brouhaha regarding Cruz's birth credentials, Trump may pass over him for his VP pick.

Mr. Trump will "keep this close" as long as he can, however. He -wants- Cruz to keep thinking that he could get the nod.

But Mr. Trump knows better -- he certainly understands the stink the democrats are going to raise if Cruz is on the ticket.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if Trump gives Scott Walker a call. Mr. Walker may have tripped up early campaigning for president, but he would make an excellent VP candidate. He's both a proven conservative AND he had credibility with (cough) "the GOP mainstream"...

To the contrary, a pox on both their houses, if the two parties force us to choose between a half-cocked megalomaniac and a socialist.  There will be a revolt of the center and the sane.
