The Powerball is now at $1.3 billion dollars! 

I can't believe no one has picked the winning numbers yet!

Yeah, I am, too. Consider that the jackpot will probably jump a couple hundred million in the next few days, too.

A billion dollars is mind-boggling. You're into the territory of buying an NFL franchise, a decent sized media network, your own restaurant franchise, etc.

Yet still not even close to financing the national debt.

Who knows?  By Wednesday, with all the people going to be buying tickets now - it could go to two billion!

I would invest in some really nice real estate, that would be my vice.  After that, building an excellent private school for ordinary people to send their children to, animal shelters and adoption centers, local farmers to grow organic food, start a parenting skills organization, provide seed money for local entrepreneurs, start a jobs program for teens, a program to assist shut-ins and low-income elderly people.  These are my passions.

I'd buy an island somewhere fairly warm.

Let the Church pop a monastery on one end for one of the hospitalier orders, and invite vets to come and de-stress. Beach, cabins, good food, bar staff who are also trained therapists - you know the sort of thing. Of course, it'd be vets from every military I've ever worked with, so the conversations would get lively! If they wanted to stay - we'd work something out.

Find some good students who slip through the funding cracks and offer to pay their tuition and board while they study (medicine, civil engineering, law, etc) in exchange for 7 years on the island once they graduate. I'm curious as to how that would work out.

Truly, you could for alot of seats. Even congressional if not for the FEC rules. Half a mil to million per race, you could buy quite a few.

As for what I would do if I win, my first thought is to divide it up between myst, and all the regular posters here, but I'm not sure.

That buying an island idea sounded good too, so we shall see.

Just remember, folks, you don't get the entire amount. The government, feds mostly, get their greedy and undeserved fingers into the game and you walk away with something around $600 million. Ok, given $600 million is nothing to sneeze at but it ain't the whole billion.

I given some thought as to what I will do with my money, for that is how I think of it, and have decided not to share it with anyone. Instead, I will build a vault similar to that of Scrooge McDuck, fill it with the money in various denominations and coins, and swim around in it naked. Not to worry though, I'll post pictures so all you can enjoy my good fortune vicariously.
