The United States needs a strong military with a strong commander-in-chief that respects it, GOP candidate Jeb Bush told Newsmax TV's J.D. Hayworth and John Bachman Friday, and a leader who has a solid strategy for defeating the Islamic State.

"Today, we have a leader that is feckless that does not believe America's strength and leadership is appropriate, and he doesn't have a strategy to destroy ISIS," the former Florida governor said.

Bush, noting that he has an extensive strategy for defeating ISIS, said the United States already has boots on the ground in Syria and Iraq.

"We have special operators in Syria; we have 3,500 troops in Iraq," said Bush. "What we need is a strategy with American leadership to forge that coalition."

He noted that he gave a speech concerning his strategy in August at the Ronald Reagan Library, even before the attacks in Paris and San Bernardino.

"We need to restore at the core of our foreign policy, which is peace through strength," said Bush. "A strong military with a strong commander-in-chief that respects the military could solve this problem."

Bush said his strategy, would include arming the Kurds and to embed with the Iraqi military, [and] re-engage with the Sunni leaders in Anbar Province that were partners in our efforts to create the surge that thanks to the heroic efforts of the men and women in uniform of this great country created stability in Iraq."

He continued that he would enforce "a no-fly zone in Syria [and] safe zones in Syria to deal with both the refugee challenge that the world faces to keep people there," and would "build this army, a unified army, Sunni-lead by Syrians, to be able to ultimately create stability in Syria and to destroy ISIS."

The final issue, Bush said, is that military has had additional requirements imposed on it through legal restrictions.

"It is outrageous that this administration has imposed additional requirements of war fighting," said Bush. "To me, it is outrageous because it endangers the troops. You cannot have lawyers on top of the war fighters of this extraordinary military force. Of course, the military should apply the standards of war fighting that are the international norms."

Further, said Bush, the United States should not "worry about the civil liberties of an ISIS sympathizer. We're at war and we should treat it accordingly."

Strong words.  I also heard an interview with Bush a couple of days ago and he stated that he has always supported building a wall and keeping illegals out.  Really Jeb?  Why didn't you do your part when you were governor?  (Yes, I know that Florida is a coastal state, but he was very lax on enforcing existing laws; especially on deportation).

Jeb,

You defeat ISIS by taking their territory, killing their fighters, and deprogramming their citizenry.

And to keep the people in their territory from relapsing, you must have a strong, competent, pro-US government in control and with a loyal population/strong economic base.

One of the quickest ways to get there is to identify a player in this war that meets some/most of these requirements... and support them.

Currently, the Kurds meet most of these.  They have a long history of being pro-American.  They possess a developed economic base in northern Iraq, with oil revenue as well.  They are skilled, motivated fighters in defense of their people and territory.  And ISIS is a mortal threat to their people.

Support them, train them, supply war material, and they will crush ISIS like a bug.

Recognize their territory as sovereign and trade with them... and they will be easily be strong enough to maintain control over the former ISIS territory and peoples.  For the Kurds LIVE in the area and will have no choice but to do so for their own sake.

Do nothing... and we will have to do it ourselves.  Only to see our efforts collapse as soon as we leave.
