Syrian teenage girls forced to marry ISIS militants in Deir ez-Zor

Dozens of Syrian girls in Deir ez-Zor province were forced by the extremist group of ISIS to marry its militants.

ISIS leadership in Syria’s eastern province of Deir ez-Zor issued a statement last week, calling on families to allow their young daughters to marry with the group’s militants, threatening those who refuse the orders to be mercilessly punished.

“More than thirty forced marriages were documented in a week in Deir ez-Zor. Most of the brides were teenagers who have been pushed by their families to marry militants of ISIS for fear of punishment,” a media activist and member of the campaign ‘Deir ez-Zor Is Being Slaughtered Silently’ said on Friday.

“Forced child marriage phenomenon has largely increased in areas under ISIS control in the past few months. The militant group has legalized those marriages through its Court,” said the activist.

The campaign of ‘Deir ez-Zor Is Being Slaughtered Silently’ was launched by a group of Syrian activists in Deir ez-Zor province nearly two years ago. The group has been documenting ISIS violations to human rights in the province.

“At least two fathers were executed last week for refusing to allow their young daughters marry ISIS terrorists,” the source added.
