County Schools Close After ‘There Is No God But Allah’ Assignment

Good news if you’re a kid in the Augusta County, Virginia school district today: no school for you!
Bad news if you’re a kid in the Augusta County, Virginia school district today: your school administrators are twatwaffles!
That’s because officials in that district have expressed their support for Riverheads High School teacher Cheryl LaPorte, a resident dingbat with all the cultural sensitivity of a wounded cobra. LaPorte gave her students a calligraphy assignment to copy the shahada, a Muslim statement of faith that translates as “there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”
Yeah. Great timing on that assignment right after a couple of high-profile terrorist attacks and just a little more than a week before Christmas.
Oddly enough, we have yet to hear about any assignment in the Augusta County school district that involves students acknowledging “our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” We will, however, pay close attention to upcoming reports so that we can determine if the school district is, in fact, fair and balanced.
Anyhoo, the district claims it wasn’t trying to promote Islamic theology with the assignment.
“Neither these lessons, nor any other lesson in the world geography course, are an attempt at indoctrination to Islam or any other religion, or a request for students to renounce their own faith or profess any belief,” the district said in a statement to Fox News.
Isn’t it weird that some people interpreted “there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is the messenger of Allah” as a message of religious indoctrination?
Well, the damage is done. Both local law enforcement and the school board have recommended that the school district be closed today “out of an abundance of caution.”
So, if you’re a student who goes to a school in that region and you’re sitting at home in your PJ’s reading Downtrend instead of sitting in class, please don’t look at the dirty pictures on the right-hand sidebar.
