A prominent official of the ISIS has been killed in an airstrike in the vicinity of the group’s major bastion Mosul, northwest Iraq, local sources reported on Monday.

An informed source said that Jabbar Saad al-Hilali, who serves as ISIS’s chief of police, also known as the Emir of the Islamic police, was killed Monday along with a number of escorts in an airstrike that hit an ISIS convoy near Mosul.

A number of ISIS manned-vehicles have been destroyed in Mosul’s forest area in the attack and the entire crew was reportedly dead, the source added.

“Al-Hilali was killed along with at least three of his escorts,” the source said on the condition of anonymity.

Dozens of ISIS senior militants were killed over the past two years in airstrikes and military operations by the Kurdish Peshmerga forces and Iraqi troops.

In Nov. 2014, Radwan Taleb al-Hamdouni, the group’s leader in Mosul, was also killed with his driver when their car was hit in a raid west of the city.

Last week, Farooq Ahmed al-Lahibi, ISIS’s intelligence official, was killed by an Iraqi group known as Ahrar al-Mosul, Iraqi police reported.

“Al-Lahibi was killed along with a number of his escorts in a sheep market in western Mosul,” Nineveh police said in a press statement.
