How many of your incoming freshmen have to spend a lot of their time and the taxpayer's money taking remedial courses just to get to the point where they can actually DO college level work?

I'd say 20 percent or so of our business majors need remedial math.  University-wide it is much higher.  We are a state university with a mission to educate kids who would not otherwise have access to a college degree, so that number is not unexpected.  But, yes, they are woefully under-prepared in both math and English skills.

And if it' anything like it is here not one of those buildings is actually usable when the university get's them!  Have to spend MANY $$ out of the local maintenance budget to make them usabe before anyone can actually move in.

Much of the new building going on is not related to academics.  It's garden apartments to replace dorm rooms, also new field houses and fitness centers.  They are turning the campuses into retirement communities for the young.

At the small state college where my husband worked until his retirement a few months ago, fully 50% of incoming freshman require remedial classes. This college is not particularly selective, needless to say, but even the "good" students are barely literate. Just look at the typical college student newspaper - and then compare it to the student newspaper of our parents' day. Shocking and terrifying.

That tends to happen when all it takes to graduate HS is a pulse and an average body temperature somewhere in the 90s.

Same here! Our local State University has an enrollment of about 20K or so and the last numbers I saw for freshmen remediation was on the order of 50% which tells you how well our public schools are doing here.

I stopped at "Trump Says...."

I'm starting to wonder if your pro-Trump stance is actually parody.

And directly competing with local private sector businessmen in the process!

Actually, I thought this was another attempt by someone in media lying about Donald Trump and what he supposedly said.

Didn't realize there was a very interesting conversation going on.

But since you asked.....

Indeed. When I was at school, what they were building was a combination hockey arena and student union (which was replacing the original student union that was built only 30 years prior; of course, it was built with that utilitarian 70s Swiss aesthetic with the bare concrete walls and the Helvetica signage, and we can't have that ugly representing our campus, can we?). They threw in a few new classrooms to make it look like they were doing something worthwhile. Then they renovated one of the dorms. The one renovation project I remember being directly related to education was being planned when I was a senior, but they didn't start it until after I graduated: they tore down one of the science halls, built onto the other science hall right next door, with the exact same number of rooms that were in the old science hall.

They build these new deluxe dorms - my bad, "residences" - so that they can soak the kiddies for even higher board fees. A lot of these kids are such delicate fleurs, they cannot cope with roommates so they get rooms all to themselves. Mom and Dad pay the premium for that.

I suspect a lot of you had dorm rooms like I did: barely bigger than the average American closet, with two trundle beds and two built-in desks. You had to learn how to get along with people in a hurry.

What happened to trade schools and the trades everyone needs?

Electricians
Welders (especially in the energy sector)
Plumbers
Appliance repairmen
HVAC technicians
Engineering Assistants
Electronic specialists
Computer troubleshooters
Auto mechanics

All of us need the collective expertise--and the trades pay well.  Screw the universities and their marxist agendas.

Heck, I have an MBA and am finishing a master's in Photography now as well (the latter is just for me) but I'm considering taking a nigh school certification in HVAC not only for the knowledge (learning that is cheaper than paying to replace a system) but having that extra bit of job security to always have an actual trade job knowledge under my belt.

You don't need a college degree to be a welder, or a great many good paying vocations.

The notion that everybody should go to college is a big hoax, pushed by educators, but it misleads "young adults that are just trying to get started."

Since educators are predominantly liberals, they bear responsibility for this misinformation.

And don't try to snow me with the idea he/she will lead a more fulfilling life as a welder, if he/she has a liberal arts degree either.

The entire thing is a giant rip-off, by the "government business. "

Big thumbs up.

To be honest I don't know if Trump has been seeing the news with what is going on on the college campuses right now. Giving more money to these little Marxist is not a good idea

I have to say I am beginning to agree that Donald Trump is a statist and a liberal.

What gave you that idea?

Well, I like the fact that he's a blunt speaker, but when he isn't hammering about illegal immigration and protecting the borders, he keeps coming up with ideas that come right from the democrats.
Seems that way to me, too.

And I'm here to tell ya....it doesn't matter!

Whether we turn on the news, a sitcom, watch a movie or simply drive to a regional mall, out country is becoming unrecognizable to us.

We know this can't be by chance.  Some 'THING' is manipulating events and the news.  On both a national and global scale.

IMO, Donald Trump, among EVERY declared candidate for either party, is the ONLY person that can apply the brakes and cancel Obama's misdeeds.

THAT, my friends, should be the focus.

Stop wasting negative energy getting upset because he's sometimes crude and plays Everyman.

We should pray for the safety of Donald Trump.   Not giving him an ideological prostate exam.

Winston Churchill himself would not survive these ideological tests...he was a tad too liberal socially and financially, quite a tad actually.

And I'm not unaware that Trump acts a bit buffoonish at times.

DON'T.  CARE.

As I've described the country is sinking fast....and even if Donald Trump is a Kennedyesque Democrat...so what?

When your house is set on fire by Communists and your successful Democrat neighbor shows up and wants to help put the fire out....well, you know.

So what Trump says doesn't matter.  That's the perfect definition of a personality cult.

Don't be surprised if your buffoon governs like a Democrat should, God forbid, he be elected.
