That was the first thing I thought of when reading the title of this thread. Glenn Beck has been warning us of the very real  possibility that we are being lead in the direction of fascism, all for the sake of national security. Fascism won't be forced on us, we will demand it out of a perceived necessity.    Prove me wrong. If we are not in danger of becoming a fascist state, then let me see Trump supporters say Trump is wrong on this one.   Anyone?

I used the term pendulum early in the thread for a very specific reason as it seems many are letting it swing far the other direction, a devil's bargain so to speak. I've been noticing that there has been more and more Conservatives embracing the BNP in the UK and the National Front in France (although at least the latter seems to have moved away from its rabid antisemitism that Marie Le Pen's father started the party on).  This is far more worry some than one candidate not declaring that he would stand for Constitutional values when questioned about violating the first amendment.  This is a pendulum swing of desperation to beat this enemy. The enemy of your enemy is not your friend and if you give up who you are, then what's the point of the fight in the first place?

Je suis Bataclan.

Unacceptable. Not here. Not in America. We do what ever it takes.

Politicians and philosophers speak of protecting lofty ideals but it's the grunt that takes the risks and suffers the aftermath of a bad command decision. Bringing in Syrian refugees is a bad command decision. We are at war. We need to be on a war footing. ISIS is not the JV team. Islam is not the religion of peace.

No Bataclan's in America.

You would shackle your fellow citizens with no due process simply because of your fear?  You're no better than the people you fear.

I'm amazed that, at a conservative forum, formerly rational people are operating at the lowest level of human consciousness, which is fear.  Pure base emotion.

This is what Trump exploits: fear, hatred, anger, disgust. Us-versus-them.  I'll protect you.

Throw rationality out the window.  We're scared to death, baby, and Donald is going to wrap his bit ole mitts around us and save us.

Adolf Eichmann cleared out an entire ghetto of Jews who willingly boarded the trains, after he, in an assuring speech convinced them that he "will protect them" from the Russians on the Eastern front.
Which is more dangerous; politicians with ill intent, or the too-trusting population that allows such people to lead them?

I try my best  to respect members with opposing viewpoints  here, as I have joined you all in great conversation on many subjects for a long long time.  But I will make no apologies in saying I do not trust Trump.  There are too many red flags for me, and I know histories events too well for me to be comfortable with him as President.

I love you, buddy!  I'm being serious here.

Do you mean parallel histories based upon current events that make your neck hairs stand straight?

What else could you mean?  Right?

And that's purely your conjecture.  Your reality.

Trump is going to SAVE this country.  It's on freaking life-support right now, for chrissakes.

I refuse to allow Hillary Clinton to pull the plug.

And I refuse to believe that Trump is the only candidate that can beat Hillary. Polls show otherwise. Polls show she is in deep trouble going up against half our field.

Which poll shows otherwise?  I musta missed it.

No other candidate has faced a full frontal media assault.

The more they try, the stronger he gets....just like in the sci-fi movies.

Very well framed and, correct.

Let's imagine that Trump makes these moves altruistically with the only intention of protecting us, of "making us great" again.  What about the next president?  What would be next?  Gulags?  Disappearances?  Summary executions?

Outrageous, you say?  Maybe it is.  I think not.

Follow up on the original story, Trump says he never said this or even responded to this reporter's question.

http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/11/19/how-the-media-smeared-donald-trump-as-a-nazi/

Quote
When Murray asked whether Trump would rule out a database for Muslims, he said he didn’t “know where you heard that.”

“Yahoo News asked you about it, you didn’t rule it out,” Murray said as Trump worked a ropeline after the event.

“No, I never — I never responded to that question,” Trump said.

“So would you not support it?” Murray asked.

“I never responded to that question, Sara,” Trump said.

He added that he didn’t “know who wrote it,” referring to the Yahoo News article, and declined to answer a follow-up question from Murray about whether he would “support something like that,” referring to a Muslim database.

Understand the primary enemy of liberty is the mainstream media, because it is they that make it possible for the domestic enemies of American sovereignty – democrats – to be elected based on lies they produce.

Outrageous, you say?  Maybe it is.  I think not.

Precious few of our citizens understand how we are losing ourselves daily.

Michelle Malkin wrote a best selling book on the defense of Defense of Internment Camps. Part of the book defending FDRs decision, and part of the book justifying why it is necessary again in today's war with radical Islam to separate some American Muslims from society.  I read the book, and attended a seminar on the subject she gave here in the Seattle area. I like Malkin, and agree with her much of the time, but the Constitution covers ALL U.S. citizens, and it would be appalling if we ever go down that ugly road of Fascism again. I do hope this story of what Trump said is wrong, like others are saying, but I'm not yet convinced it is. Too many outrageous things have been said coming out of his campaign, and he never really walks them back, but instead denies he said it or blames staff or the press.

Point I'm trying to make - with a strong enough populist movement started by a charismatic leader - what happened in the ghettos of Poland, or in FDRs America, can happen again, and can happen here.
