Governor Bentley Refuses Syrian Refugees Relocating to Alabama
November 15, 2015
Press Releases

MONTGOMERY—Governor Robert Bentley on Sunday announced he is refusing Syrian refugees relocating to Alabama.

“After full consideration of this weekend’s attacks of terror on innocent citizens in Paris, I will oppose any attempt to relocate Syrian refugees to Alabama through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. As your Governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way,” Governor Robert Bentley said.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency is working diligently with the FBI, DHS and federal intelligence partners to monitor any possible threats. Law enforcement presence has been increased at major gathering events in Alabama to further insure the safety of citizens. To date, there has been no credible intelligence of any terrorist threats in Alabama.

Alabama currently has one U.S. State Department approved refugee processing center in Mobile. There have been no Syrian refugees relocated in Alabama to date, though neighboring states have processed a number of refugees.

“The acts of terror committed over the weekend are a tragic reminder to the world that evil exists and takes the form of terrorists who seek to destroy the basic freedoms we will always fight to preserve. I will not place Alabamians at even the slightest, possible risk of an attack on our people. Please continue to join me in praying for those who have suffered loss and for those who will never allow freedom to fade at the hands of terrorists,” Governor Bentley added.

I hope more governors join him in putting Americans and America first.

And use some common sense in solving this "crisis." Set up refugee camps in Syria or neighboring Turkey and Jordan under the protection of a coalition of nations. Cheaper and easier to move folks back home once the ISIS threat is neutralized.

Gov Jindal (LA) and Gov Synder (MI) have taken such action.
Yes, I also hope more governors exercise their powers.
Have emailed my Gov here in NC.

And, yes, let the oil rich arab nations (Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia) do the work and pay the freight.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2015/11/16/governors-of-michigan-alabama-reject-resettlement-of-syrian-refugees-in-their-states/

By Yanan Wang November 16 at 5:16 AM

The terrorist attacks in Paris have prompted two governors to announce that Syrian refugees will not be allowed to resettle in their states.

Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan and Gov. Robert Bentley of Alabama, both Republicans, issued individual statements Sunday declaring that their states would not be open to refugees fleeing the conflict in Syria.

Noting Michigan’s “rich history of immigration,” Snyder’s statement said, “But our first priority is protecting the safety of our residents.”

“It’s also important to remember that these attacks are the efforts of extremists and do not reflect the peaceful ways of people of Middle Eastern descent here and around the world,” he said.

Snyder had previously been working with the federal government to determine a process for accepting refugees. “Isn’t that part of being a good Michigander?” he told the Detroit Free Press in late September, pointing out the economic and humanitarian benefits of welcoming Syrians.

Snyder said those efforts would now be suspended until further evidence of more rigid security measures.

His reversal follows a statement from Michigan state Rep. Gary Glenn, also a Republican, who said Saturday that the state “should not rush to offer an open door to the high-risk importation of individuals from a known hotbed of Islamic extremism.”

Michigan is home to a sizable Middle Eastern population, with the Detroit metro area having one of the largest in the country. Earlier this month, the city of Hamtramck, Mich., elected America’s first Muslim-majority city council.

According to the Free Press, many Syrians have already settled in Michigan, where 200 have been relocated by one agency in the past year.

In Alabama, no Syrian refugees have been relocated — and none will be allowed to settle there in the future, Bentley said in his statement.

“As your Governor, I will not stand complicit to a policy that places the citizens of Alabama in harm’s way,” he declared. “The acts of terror committed over the weekend are a tragic reminder to the world that evil exists and takes the form of terrorists who seek to destroy the basic freedoms we will always fight to preserve.”

Legally, the states have limited power to control the flow of foreigners into their states, with that authority reserved largely to the federal government under the Constitution. In early September, the Obama administration said it would at least accept 10,000 Syrian refugees during the federal government’s 2015 fiscal year.

At the same time, leaders in Canada and Australia have so far stood their ground on promises to welcome refugees, though they acknowledge the situation has been complicated by the Paris attacks.

An official from the office of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Saturday that the administration will move forward with its plans to accept 25,000 Syrian refugees by the end of the year. The announcement defies growing concern over the security risks of meeting such an early deadline.

Australia’s immigration minister, Peter Dutton, also denied a request from a member of Parliament to renege on a plan to accept 12,000 refugees from Syria and Iraq.

“Australia does not need Middle Eastern refugees or Islamic boat people!” MP Andrew Fraser wrote in a public Facebook message to Dutton, the BBC reports. “Close our borders we have enough anarchists already resident in Australia.”

Dutton told Australia’s Seven Network that while additional security checks may be implemented in light of the attacks, “Australia obviously faces a very different situation than in countries in Europe that have land borders.”

Police are investigating a Syrian passport found near the spot where suicide bombers blew themselves up outside France’s national stadium. Greek authorities have traced the passport to a refugee who was among the 198 that arrived at Leros, an Aegean island, by way of a migrant boat on Oct. 3.

Boone delegates letter wants to keep Syrian refugees out of West Virginia
First Posted: 8:46 am - November 16th, 2015 Updated: 8:50 am - November 16th, 2015.
From staff and wire reports

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia Delegate Joshua Nelson (R-23), of Boone County, who is also the state Chair on the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, has issued an open letter to the state’s Governor, Earl Ray Tomblin, as well as President Barack Obama, demanding that “un-vetted” Syrian refugees not be allowed to take up residence in the Mountain State.

The letter and online petition was launched just hours after France’s horrific terrorist attacks Friday evening — attacks that were in part carried out by at least one individual who apparently entered the nation disguised as a refugee from the embattled Middle Eastern nation.

Nelson said the petition already has over 2,600 signatures.

The 28-year-old southern West Virginia delegate’s letter states:
Quote
West Virginia was placed on a list to receive un-vetted Syrian refugees who are fleeing Syria. Let me be the first to say that those among them who are peaceful and want a chance at peace have my deepest sympathies but the truth remains that among these refugees will also be those who are hell bent on carrying out jihad in the United States and West Virginia mixed among them as a Trojan horse.

I am writing you to ask you to change your plans of bringing these individuals to our state. These so called refugees hit our friends and oldest Ally in France extremely hard yesterday and well over a hundred peace loving people perished because of this. This is unacceptable. Those of us who oppose taking refugees in that we know nothing about and have no research about their intentions have been demonized and even had our faith questioned because we are worried about the safety of our families and friends are not by any means ‘racist’ or somehow ‘un-Christian’. This political tactic in an overly politically correct world is simply false. We believe that it is against our safety interests and our national security to allow people of whom we have no way of knowing if they are terrorists or not into our boarders.

Both of you have advocated extremely hard and demanded background checks for our very own citizens to carry out a constitutional right… at the very least we can require background checks and legal process for those wishing to come into our country and enjoy the blessings of liberty. We are a nation of immigrants, but that does not mean we are a nation of no laws.

Very Respectfully,

Texas Governor To Obama: No Syrian Refugees In The Lone Star State

Submitted by Tyler Durden on 11/16/2015

Texas governor Greg Abbott does some funny things from time to time.

Back in the summer, when Washington and The Pentagon were set to roll out a covert plan to re-annex the Lone Star State by, i) placing US spec ops among civilians, ii) declaring martial law, and iii) confiscating everyone’s guns, Abbott probably saved Texas from having to be a part of the United States by calling up the state guard to monitor the “exercises.”

“To address concerns that Texas citizens and to ensure that Texas communities remain safe, secure, and informed about military procedures occurring in their vicinity, I am directing the state guard to monitor Operation Jade Helm 15.”

Phew. That was close.

Well, having successfully backed down the Green Berets and Navy SEALs, Abbott is prepared to take on a new adversary: ISIS. Or actually, Syrian refugees. Who are all ISIS members. Just look at Paris. You saw the passport.

On Monday, Abbott penned a letter to The President informing him that in light of what happened in France on Friday evening, Texas would not be participating in any program that resettles Syrian refugees in his state.

This is from the state’s official website:

Governor Greg Abbott today sent a letter to President Barack Obama informing him that the State of Texas will not accept any refugees from Syria in the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Paris. Furthermore, Governor Abbott implored President Obama to halt his plans to accept more Syrian refugees in the United States entirely, as the federal government does not have the background information necessary to effectively conduct proper security checks on Syrian nationals.

"Given the tragic attacks in Paris and the threats we have already seen, Texas cannot participate in any program that will result in Syrian refugees - any one of whom could be connected to terrorism - being resettled in Texas," Governor Abbott said in the letter. "Effective today, I am directing the Texas Health & Human Services Commission's Refugee Resettlement Program to not participate in the resettlement of any Syrian refugees in the State of Texas.

And I urge you, as President, to halt your plans to allow Syrians to be resettled anywhere in the United States."

"Neither you nor any federal official can guarantee that Syrian refugees will not be part of any terroristic activity," Governor Abbott continued. "As such, opening our door to them irresponsibly exposes our fellow Americans to unacceptable peril."

That’s right. No need to put Americans in any more "peril" than they're already in by say, attending class at a community college, going to Sunday school, or going to a movie.

To be fair to Abbott, Texas isn't the only state to refuse Syrian migrants. Abbott joins his counterparts in Alabama, Arkansas, and Michigain is declining to participate. As a reminder here's the map of the 2015 "Reception and Placement Program":

In Illinois, Rauner suspends accepting new Syrian refugees
Written By Lynn Sweet Posted: 11/16/2015, 11:50am

WASHINGTON — In the wake of the Paris attacks, Gov. Bruce Rauner on Monday said Illinois will “temporarily suspend” accepting new Syrian refugees, putting him at odds with President Barack Obama.

In Turkey on Monday, President Barack Obama rejected calls from some GOP presidential candidates, other governors and members of Congress to bar the refugees fleeing a civil war in order to protect the U.S. from terrorists.

“In terms of refugees, it’s clear that countries like Turkey, Lebanon and Jordan — which are already bearing an extraordinary burden — cannot be expected to do so alone,” Obama said.

Governor Rauner Issues Statement on Accepting Syrian Refugees

SPRINGFIELD – Governor Bruce Rauner has issued the following statement regarding Illinois’ acceptance of Syrian refugees after the terror attacks in Paris:

"Our nation and our state have a shared history of providing safe haven for those displaced by conflict, but the news surrounding the Paris terror attacks reminds us of the all-too-real security threats facing America. We must find a way to balance our tradition as a state welcoming of refugees while ensuring the safety and security of our citizens. Therefore, the state of Illinois will temporarily suspend accepting new Syrian refugees and consider all of our legal options pending a full review of our country’s acceptance and security processes by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security."

I cannot think of any rationale for these "refugees" leaving their home region, i.e. the mideast.

If they need safe haven, there is plenty of territory which is safe. If they need food, give them food.

The notion they MUST go to Europe or the US to get those things is ridiculous.

I can think of two reasons why they need to come to the U.S.  1. They can eventually become Democrat voters (those who don't kill themselves with suicide vests, anyway); 2. They can contribute to the social security trust fund (the same reason most of the west is intent on importing as many people as possible, those government welfare programs are all Ponzi Schemes).  They also have the added benefit of having a low carbon footprint, being as how they are used to a middle-ages way of life.
