 2 dead, 10 wounded in shootings citywide

Two people have been killed and at least 10 people have been wounded in shootings citywide since Friday morning.

At 12:30 a.m. Saturday, a 45-year-old woman was killed in Little Village, said police spokesman Officer Hector Alfaro.

She was walking in the 2500 block of South Harding Avenue when she heard shots and was struck.

She was taken to St. Anthony Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest and pronounced dead.

About 8:45 p.m. Friday, a 43-year-old man was fatally shot in North Austin, police said.

He was in the 5300 block of West North Avenue when someone on foot fired shots, said Chicago police spokeswoman Officer Amina Greer. He was shot in the head and taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

At 3:55 a.m., a 48-year-old man was shot in Little Village, Alfaro said.

He was driving in the 2400 block of South St. Louis Avenue when he stopped at a stop sign and someone shot him in the chest and abdomen.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

At 2:45 a.m., a 40-year-old man was shot in South Austin, Alfaro said.

He was on a sidewalk in the 100 block of North Waller Avenue when he was shot in the leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and his condition was stabilized.

At 1:10 a.m., a 23-year-old man was shot in the Marquette Park neighborhood, police said.

He was arguing with another person on a front porch in the 7100 block of South Rockwell Street when the other person pulled out a handgun and shot him in the abdomen and the back.

He drove himself to Holy Cross Hospital and later was transferred to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

At 11:40 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in Rogers Park, Alfaro said.

He was at a gas station in the 7100 block of North Sheridan Road when someone fired shots from a dark sedan. He was hit in the head and went to St. Francis Hospital in serious condition.

About 9:15 p.m., a 16-year-old boy was shot in Englewood, Alfaro said.

He was on a sidewalk in the 400 block of West 75th Street when he was shot in the back. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, and his condition was stabilized.

At 4:08 p.m., two men, ages 20 and 23, were shot in Washington Heights, Greer said.

They were in the 1400 block of West 107th Street when the 20-year-old was shot in the buttocks, and the 23-year-old was shot in the arm. They got themselves to Roseland Community Hospital. No information was immediately available about their conditions or the circumstances of the shooting.

About 3 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was shot in the head and critically wounded in the Jefferson Park neighborhood, said Officer Thomas Sweeney, a Chicago police spokesman.

The shooting occurred in the 5100 block of North Austin Avenue, and the boy was taken in critical condition to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Sweeney said.

Just before 11 a.m., a 24-year-old man was shot in West Pullman. He was in the 12000 block of South Perry Avenue when he was shot in the buttocks, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.

About 8 a.m., a 28-year-old city worker was shot in Gresham, police said.

The man, a Water Management Department employee, was at a work site in the 1400 block of West 85th Street when someone fired shots from an alley and fled in a silver car, police said. He was shot in the face and taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center.

My daughter and son-in-law live in Chicago so it makes me feel more confident that the city's tough stance on guns is so effective. :3:

This national horror show will never stop until we get all guns off the streets. NO....wait... Change that to : We need common sense gun control.  Yeah that's it...go with that for now.
