Clinton to emphasize leadership in Benghazi testimony

By Jesse Byrnes

Hillary Clinton on Thursday will emphasize during her highly-anticipated testimony before the House Select Committee on Benghazi that American diplomats must continue to serve even in unstable regions, according to an aide for the former secretary of State.

The Democratic presidential candidate is expected to discuss during her marathon testimony before the panel investigating the deadly 2012 attack in Benghazi, Libya that military-based approaches should not be seen as a first option in foreign policy.

The Clinton aide said the former secretary of State plans to use her appearance before the committee to outline her vision for U.S. leadership abroad in the vein of the work of the late Chris Stevens, the U.S. ambassador to Libya who died in Benghazi.

Clinton's testimony is sure to include an emphasis on security for U.S. personnel stationed in foreign areas, including those that are unstable or hostile to Americans.
