Three people have been arrested in connection with the alleged sale of baby found in Cardiff.

A Romanian mother is accused of telling people that her baby had died during an operation, but suspicions were aroused and after an investigation by police they found the baby alive and well in Cardiff Bay.

There have been claims that the baby had been put up for sale for £11,000.

The 15-day old baby was born in the hospital Virgen de la Concha in Zamora, Spain, to a 19-year-old Romanian woman.

The new mother said the baby had died during an operation in the UK because of a problem with an injured vein.

A statement released by the Spanish police said doubts had been cast on the story and checks were made as a result.

A statement from South Wales Police said: ‘Police can confirm that three people have been arrested in connection with an investigation into concerns for a baby in Cardiff.

‘Two females aged 19 and 26 and a male aged 25 have all been released on police bail pending further enquiries.

‘The six-week-old baby boy is safe and well and remains in the care of the local authority.’
