No Trident debate at Labour conference
« on: September 27, 2015, 04:25:38 pm »
Labour conference delegates will not now debate whether Britain's Trident nuclear weapons should be scrapped.

The highly anticipated vote had been expected to take place on Wednesday.

But the motion failed to get the support it needed from activists in a ballot selecting the urgent issues to be debated in Brighton.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will still have to convince his MPs and minister to back disarmament when Parliament votes next year.

Some trade unions are against scrapping Trident because it will cost jobs but Mr Corbyn says Britain should ditch its "weapons of mass destruction".

The biggest union in the UK - Unite - is one of the "some trade unions." It's a dead issue now, as far as Labour is concerned. They'll happily push socialism on us, but daren't cross their paymasters.
