Dance-off between rival high school drill teams turns into massive brawl after one girl strikes another on the head

What started as an impromptu dance battle between two rival high school drill teams ended with a violent melee involving dozens of teens and parents who rushed the football field in Dallas.
The brawl broke out Friday night at Wilmer Hutchins Stadium at the conclusion of a football game between Wilmer Hutchins High School and James Madison High School.
Grainy cellphone footage shot by an eyewitness captured the moment the schools' all-female drill teams came to blows.

In the video obtained by the station Fox 26, Deshannon Roberts’ 15-year-old daughter, Shamyra Cooper, stands on one side of the field with other members of James Madison’s drill team. Across from them, members of Wilmer Hutchins’ dance squad are lined up.
At one point, a Wilmer Hutchins drill team member runs over to Cooper and breaks into a mocking dance routine.
Cooper turns her back on her prancing rival in contempt, at which point the other girl swipes up Shamyra's long hair and strikes her on the back of the head.
The blow signaled the beginning of a ferocious free-for-all, with teens and parents who were in attendance converging in the middle of the field to take part in the clash.
‘It was a horrible fight, everyone was going blow-for-blow. My daughter's hair was pulled,’ Ms Roberts told the station.
The Dallas Independent School District released a statement addressing the affray.
‘Impromptu dance-offs are not part of the approved performance for dance teams and fighting is never acceptable. Disciplinary actions will be taken as appropriate,’ the statement read.
District officials said the girls involved in the commotion will not be permitted to partake in upcoming performances at football games.
None of the brawlers suffered serious injuries and no arrests were made.
