Arnold Schwarzenegger Named New 'Celebrity Apprentice' Host

He replaces Donald Trump on the NBC reality series.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is headed for the boardroom.

The Celebrity Apprentice has named the actor and twice-elected California governor as the new host of the reality competition, NBC announced Monday.

Schwarzenegger replaces longtime host Donald Trump, who parted ways with NBC shortly after he announced his presidential campaign in June.

The network first said it planned to "re-evaluate" Trump's role on the reality competition – which stems back to its 2005 debut – in June when Trump announced he was running for president. At the time, NBC's stance was because of the strict rules networks must abide by in giving equal screen time to all presidential candidates.

However, NBC severed all ties with Trump in July after he made what NBC deemed to be "derogatory statements" about Mexican immigrants. In a June 16 speech, he referred to Mexican immigrants as "rapists" and as people bringing drugs and crime into the U.S. in a speech announcing his presidential campaign.

Oh well, used to like to watch that show. Won't watch it with him. Never will forgive him for reducing the prison sentence for the son of Nunez.

OK. Odd choice.

Understandable though - Like Trump, Arnie is a self made man who worships his creator.

Indeed. The whole premise of The Apprentice is that it's a high-level businessman choosing someone to work under him (or her). Trump is a businessman. Martha Stewart is a businesswoman.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is a lot of things—bodybuilder, actor, politician—but his experience in business is almost nil. The samec goes for some of the other names NBC was tossing about, all of whom were celebrities who had almost no business experience outside Hollywood.

Schwarzenegger has a lot more business experience than people realize. He isn't just a politician/actor. He used his acting money to finance and start over 100 businesses. He owns everything from the Fitness Expo chains to a private jet leasing company to several health and nutrition chains, restaurants (remember Planet Hollywood) and even multiple software businesses, overall they all have been very successful (with the exception of Planet Hollywood that went bankrupt).  I remember when he ran for governor, his financial disclosure document of all his businesses and investments looked like the LA phone book.

Wrong, Arnold was a successful business creator and real estate investor, before movies and politics.

Business career

Schwarzenegger has had a highly successful business career.[12][24] Following his move to the United States, Schwarzenegger became a "prolific goal setter" and would write his objectives at the start of the year on index cards, like starting a mail order business or buying a new car – and succeed in doing so.[19] By the age of 30, Schwarzenegger was a millionaire, well before his career in Hollywood. His financial independence came from his success as a budding entrepreneur with a series of successful business ventures and investments.

Bricklaying business

In 1968, Schwarzenegger and fellow bodybuilder Franco Columbu started a bricklaying business. The business flourished thanks to the pair's marketing savvy and an increased demand following the 1971 San Fernando earthquake.[94][95] Schwarzenegger and Columbu used profits from their bricklaying venture to start a mail order business, selling bodybuilding and fitness-related equipment and instructional tapes.[7][94]

Investments

Schwarzenegger rolled profits from the mail order business and his bodybuilding competition winnings into his first real estate investment venture: an apartment building he purchased for $10,000. He would later go on to invest in a number of real estate holding companies.[96][97]

Schwarzenegger was a founding celebrity investor in the Planet Hollywood chain of international theme restaurants (modeled after the Hard Rock Cafe) along with Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone and Demi Moore. Schwarzenegger severed his financial ties with the business in early 2000.[98][99] Schwarzenegger said the company had not had the success he had hoped for, claiming he wanted to focus his attention on "new US global business ventures" and his movie career.[98]

He also invested in a shopping mall in Columbus, Ohio. He has talked about some of those who have helped him over the years in business: "I couldn't have learned about business without a parade of teachers guiding me... from Milton Friedman to Donald Trump... and now, Les Wexner and Warren Buffett. I even learned a thing or two from Planet Hollywood, such as when to get out! And I did!"[17] He has significant ownership in Dimensional Fund Advisors, an investment firm.[100] Schwarzenegger is also the owner of Arnold's Sports Festival, which he started in 1989 and is held annually in Columbus, Ohio. It is a festival that hosts thousands of international health and fitness professionals which has also expanded into a three-day expo. He also owns a movie production company called Oak Productions, Inc. and Fitness Publications, a joint publishing venture with Simon & Schuster.[101]

Restaurant

In 1992, Schwarzenegger and his wife opened a restaurant in Santa Monica called Schatzi On Main. Schatzi literally means "little treasure," colloquial for "honey" or "darling" in German. In 1998, he sold his restaurant.[102]

For the record. He may and seems to be a good businessman. His term as governor was horrible. One reason cali pays more for gasoline than any other  state is his global warming tax he gave the state before he left. Oh I will never forgive him for cutting in half the prison sentence of the Nunez boy. Those are the reasons I won't watch him.
