While GOP RINO's Dither - Conservatives Try to Defund Planned Parenthood!

Both the GOP conservatives and the more moderate leadership have expressed their anger at the contents of the recently released undercover Planned Parenthood videos. The conservatives have been roundly calling for the defunding and investigation of Planned Parenthood by the federal government, and for the most part, the moderate leadership has voiced its agreement. However, as GOP voters have come to learn in recent years, there is a very big difference between what the GOP establishment says and what the GOP establishment actually does.

Just a couple of weeks ago we reported that there was optimism on Capitol Hill that the two factions could come together on this issue.

GOP House leadership is planning to hold a vote on a Planned Parenthood funding freeze at some point this fall…

Black, McCarthy and Boehner are all important members of the GOP House leadership and beholden to the establishment. If we can take them at their word (and that is a BIG “IF” indeed), then we should be optimistic that the House will hold a vote to defund Planned Parenthood sometime in the next few months. Such a vote (if we win) could be an important first step to mending fences between the establishment and the conservatives within the GOP in the run-up to the 2016 election. But will it happen?

Sadly, it only takes a week or two for everything to change in Congress. Now the GOP leadership seems to be tempering expectations, and they can be heard speaking as if we’ve already lost the “defund Planned Parenthood” fight.

planned parenthood defundRep. Diane Black (R-TN) who sounded as if she was leading the way in defunding PP just two weeks ago, now sounds like a Boehner/McConnell puppet whining about the difficulties of getting such action passed the Democrats. After Rep. Mick Mulvaney (R-SC) wrote a letter demanding Planned Parenthood be defunded, Black responded with typical moderate cynicism.

“I wholeheartedly agree with the spirit and intent of my friend, Congressman Mulvaney’s letter. The sad truth, however, is that President Obama is likely to veto any measure that combats funding of his political allies at Planned Parenthood.

I believe we must consider how to most effectively wage this battle while acknowledging our current political realities, positioning our movement for long-term success, and avoiding a government shutdown — which would not defund Planned Parenthood and would only embolden our radically pro-abortion president,” Black concluded.

Oddly enough, her sentiments now echo the sentiments of Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). McConnell is also attempting to lower expectations, while telling anyone who will listen that if we want to see real change, we need to elect a Republican President.

“The president’s made it very clear he’s not going to sign any bill that includes defunding of Planned Parenthood, so that’s another issue that awaits a new president, hopefully with a different point of view about Planned Parenthood,” McConnell said on the Kentucky station WYMT’s “Issues and Answers.”

Conservatives voters have heard this song before. ‘If we can just win a majority in the Senate we can get things done.’ When we did that, the GOP said “Oh, we can’t get anything past the Democrat House… if we could just retake the House, then we could really accomplish something.” Okay, we helped them retake the House next. Now, they are whining that they can’t get anything past President Obama.

To this idea conservative Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) says, ‘Hogwash’.

Conservative pundit Amanda Carpenter agreed, adding:

The truth of the matter is that the Republican moderates are the real problem in Washington. For over two centuries our Representatives have been able to pass both conservative and liberal agendas and almost always with mixed governments. Hardly ever has our nation seen one party dominate every branch of government for any real length of time.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) added his voice to the conservative chorus demanding action on defunding Planned Parenthood.

Cruz, for his part, plans to send a letter to McConnell urging him not to schedule a vote on legislation that continues to fund Planned Parenthood.

“In light of recent and horrific revelations that Planned Parenthood is trafficking in fetal tissue and body parts from abortions, we urge you not to schedule or facilitate the consideration of any legislation that authorizes or appropriates federal dollars for Planned Parenthood," a draft of Cruz’s letter reads.

I hope that Senator Cruz, Rep. Amash and other conservatives in Congress can finally get the GOP leadership to listen to reason, but I’m not optimistic on that front. We simply cannot trust the GOP to be our answer anymore. They’ve sold us out one too many times, and we cannot allow them to continue doing so.

Call your representatives today and demand that they stand up and stand against Planned Parenthood.

Let me predict they will rant, rave and call names. A few will say it is unconstitutional, even though the 2/3 requirement is specifically in the Constitution.

Few will make important historical comparisons, for we give little value to the past, before Facebook, Twitter and 24/7 entertainment-news.

Sal Russo will use the issue, to send out campaign solicitation emails, for his Tea Party organization. He will clip a fraction off the top, for "administration" costs, and clip another fraction for "commissions" on funds raised, and clip yet another fraction off what remains for commissions on ads placed.

And the merry bands of followers will stay eyes glued to their favorite entertainment media sources, that tell them their opponents are oh so evil, and they are oh so wonderful

The people that used to merely make sausage, are now entertainers, and not very good ones at that.

One day Trey Goudy is a local prosecutor, and next he is a modern media star, without getting a better haircut.

Ha ha.

The House alone can defund Planned Parenthood entirely buy simply refusing to appropriate any funds for that purpose under any circumstance and it's done!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
