Al Sharpton Thinks Puerto Ricans Aren’t American Citizens

The MSNBC gaffe-fest continues.

Al Sharpton used his own program to attack Donald Trump’s immigration plan. That’s not so surprising, since he’s required to regurgitate left-wing talking points while on that network.

What’s also not surprising is that Sharpton made it clear that he doesn’t know that Puerto Ricans are American citizens. We really can’t fault him for this as much as we fault him for his race-baiting and stupidity on basic economics. After all, there are probably quite a few Americans who don’t realize that Puerto Ricans are citizens of the United States.

Here’s what he said: “I grew up in Brooklyn, New York. I went to school not only with people from the Caribbean, uh, Trinidad, Haiti, Jamaica, people that were Russian Jews, people that were from Puerto Rico — all would have to go back if their parents were undocumented.”

First of all, we had no idea that Sharpton grew up at all. Second, Puerto Ricans have been American citizens since 1917 thanks to a piece of legislation called the Jones Act.

Sharpton might want to talk to his staff about doing better research.
