Isis have almost taken full control of the ancient town, according to Syrian activists. The Syrian Observatory for human rights reported on Wednesday that government forces collapsed in the face of Isis attacks and withdrew from the town late on Wednesday. It remains unclear how close to the archaeological site they have come.
