The Craziest Ways UK Lefties are Reacting to Conservative Win

The left makes sore winners, as Obama reminds us every time he gives a speech, but it makes even worse losers. The UK loss for Labour has led to bizarre tantrums with lefties protesting the undeniable results of an election and indulging in hatred for Tories, when, if they had any intellectual honesty, they should be blaming SNP. But then again the Democrats chose to obsess over Bush conspiracies after they lost the election instead of blaming Ralph Nader. The enemy always has to be to the right. Not to the left.

The UK tantrum should be familiar since it recalls how the Israeli left lost its minds after their recent election defeat. The circumstances were somewhat similar with polls being proven wrong by a silent conservative majority. The reactions were if anything uglier with slurs aimed at Middle Eastern Jews and a call not to donate to charity for the poor… who were suspected of voting Likud.

UK lefties are also reacting with  [2]dignity and grace.

So philosopher Rebecca Roache decided to unfriend Conservatives, comparing support for David Cameron’s party to racism, sexism and homophobia.

In her blog, Dr Roache, who is also an associate editor of the Journal of Medical Ethics, wrote: “One of the first things I did after seeing the depressing election news…  was check to see which of my Facebook friends ‘like’ the pages of the Conservatives or David Cameron, and unfriend them. (Thankfully, none of my friends ‘like’ the Ukip page.)”

“I don’t want to be friends with racists, sexists, or homophobes. And I don’t want to be friends with Conservatives either.”

Jim Everett, a social psychologist and philosopher at Oxford University, was among those to take issue with Dr Roache. Describing himself as a “gay, disabled, working-class Conservative” in his response to her post, Dr Everett said that the blog was in keeping with a bias in academia against the Tories.

“This appears to justify that it’s OK [to hold] the idea that Conservatives are evil and therefore they are intellectually and morally inferior,” he said. “As an academic, I find that worrying

No, really [3].

I’m sorry, but it’s probably the badges. Not Labour rosettes, but those badges you sometimes see, the wearer proudly declaring that they have “never kissed a Tory”. I’m not saying it’s the reason the Labour party lost, but someone should seriously rethink the ad hominem demonisation of voters that helps make those “shy Tories” shy.

Maybe too much grace [4].

The owner of a small garden centre in East Sussex whose anti-Tory blackboard went viral on social media says he has no regrets, despite admitting it could put him out of business.

Matt Woodruff, the owner of Woodruffs Yard in Lewes, said he was moved to vent his political views on his shop’s blackboard after the Conservatives took the local seat that had been occupied by the Lib Dem former Home Office minister Norman Baker.

The sign proposes a “Tory tax” of 10% on any customer who voted Conservative as one of the “‘tough’ decisions I need to make to ‘balance the books’ under your preferred government”.

The sign also says Ukip voters should “shop elsewhere”.

I imagine they will.

On Twitter the trending hashtag was #LowerThanVermin because the left is what it is.
