Freddie Gray Had A Long Rap Sheet

Freddie Gray, the deceased man at the center of the unrest in Baltimore, had numerous run-ins with the law prior to his fatal detainment in April — with offenses ranging from felony drug possession to assault.

The 25-year-old’s criminal history starts in July 2007 with an arrest for “possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute and “unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance.” A month later, he was charged with three separate counts of drug possession, a count of violating probation, and making a “false statement to a peace officer.”

Heavy.com posted Gray’s complete rap sheet on Monday and it includes over a dozen charges — primarily for offenses relating to drug distribution.

March 20, 2015: Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance
March 13, 2015: Malicious destruction of property, second-degree assault
 January 20, 2015: Fourth-degree burglary, trespassing
January 14, 2015: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute
December 31, 2014: Possession of narcotics with intent to distribute
December 14, 2014: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance
August 31, 2014: Illegal gambling, trespassing
January 25, 2014: Possession of marijuana
September 28, 2013: Distribution of narcotics, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, second-degree assault, second-degree escape
April 13, 2012: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, violation of probation
July 16, 2008: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute
March 28, 2008: Unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance
March 14, 2008: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to manufacture and distribute
February 11, 2008: Unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance
August 29, 2007: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, violation of probation
August 28, 2007: Possession of marijuana
August 23, 2007: False statement to a peace officer, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance
July 16, 2007: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance (2 counts)

The Washington Post reported on Friday that Gray had a lengthy criminal history and even had a two-year stint in prison. According to The Post, his charges were primarily for selling heroin and marijuana. However, only a few of the counts he was charged with resulted in convictions.

Before he died, Gray had two pending drug charges against him — one of which was a felony count for dealing heroin. In 2014, he was arrested on suspicion of serving as a lookout for a heroin dealer and the charges stemming from it could have sent him to prison for a long time. He cut a deal with prosecutors and was able to serve his time by doing several hours of community service.

Gray’s many run-ins with the law made him a familiar face for police officers, literally. Gray at the time of his last arrest could be identified by name simply through video surveillance.

To any low information voters who may happen on this.  A rap sheet is NOT a list of songs he wrote. :silly:

His rap sheet is irrelevant to the fact he was killed either directly or indirectly by the actions of law enforcement.

It's a very leftist justification/distraction technique and one I am surprised and disheartened to see being used.

Perhaps, but it might help explain why he was approached by officers in the first place, and why he may have run.  There are still a lot of missing pieces especially concerning what transpired inside the van.
It's the Supreme Court nominations!

If he was roughly one week post spinal laminectomy, as I have read, then he could have been at fault for causing his own death by running. Police had no way of knowning his post-surgical condition. And if he was fleeing and resisting and didn't wish to have a conversation with officers because he was just engaged in criminal activity, he may have caused his own death by going against doctors orders.

Both true points.

As long as his rap sheet is used in the way mac says - as BACKGROUND for why he may have been stopped and why he ran - that's fine. If it is used as JUSTIFICATION - just no.

And definitely if the reports of his surgery are true (no evidence that they are not, other than him being mighty spry for someone a week out of back surgery) Gray was a contributory factor in his own death.
