It appears that ‘Star Trek Beyond‘ may be the title of the upcoming Star Trek film, lucky number 13 in the franchise. As far as the storyline is concerned, the title suggests that the new film will venture farther out into the galaxy than we have seen in the previous two Abrams films, as co-writer Simon Pegg has been hinting at for some time now.

"Star Trek Beyond" officially completed filming on Thursday in Dubai.

Director Justin Lin will now begin a lengthy post-production process for the film, scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.

Yep, besides some of the (hate to use this word but it is meant in a positive way) campy nature, it seems to take some TOS plot-lines. Putting different aliens on a planet to fight it out, for example, seems to be a bigger take on Arena, not to mention, the major antagonist alien has a passing resemblance to Gorn. A motorcycle on the alien planet? I guess we'll have to wait and see how that comes about but could there be shades of Miri in this as well?

Maybe wishful thinking but with Pegg as the writer, there is a new hope (sorry, couldn't resist). He is a major geek and probably knows TOS by heart.
