Muslims Now Accusing Obama of Supporting Iran Because He’s a Muslim

A hallowed liberal cliche is that ignorant FOX News viewers hate Obama because they think he’s a Muslim. They’re close. Just switch FOX News viewers to Muslims [1].
Commentators on two different Arabic television programs claimed that President Barack Obama is pushing a nuclear deal with Iran because his father, Barack Obama Sr., was a Shiite Muslim, and President Obama apparently wants the Shia-run government of Iran to be victorious in the region.
The commentators made their remarks on the UK channel Al-Hiwar TV on March 25 and on 4Shbab TV in Saudi Arabia on April 10; the segments were recorded and translated by the Middle East Media Research Institute TV Monitor Project (MEMRI).
“There is one thing we must not forget,” said Syrian writer Muhydin Lazikani on Hiwar TV. “I am not peddling some theory, and I am not being racist. But Barack Hussein Obama is the son of a Shiite Kenyan father.”
“This is why the Iranian issue is so important to him and why he is so anxious for Iran to emerge victorious, and for Syria and all the countries of the Arab Gulf to be shattered,” said Lazikani.
On 4ShbabTV, April 10, Abu Muntasir Al-Baloushi, a London-based Iranian Opposition activist, said, “Barack Hussein Obama is the son of a Shiite father.”
He then said, “There is no doubt that he is Iran’s lifesaver. Some people call him the Iranian lobby in America. He suffers from a peculiar complex. He believes that ‘wherever we go, the Sunnis are fighting us.’”
This isn’t the first time this issue has come up [2]. A lot of Shiite Iraqis believe it too.
When he learns that I live in New York, Ridha Mohammed leans toward me and lowers his voice to a conspiratory whisper. “I will tell you a secret that the Americans don’t know,” he says. “Their next President is a Shi’ite.”
Ridha Mohammed is an exception, however: he trained as an engineer at Baghdad University and owns a flourishing plumbing business. He lives just outside Sadr City, Baghdad’s giant Shi’ite slum, where preachers at several mosques routinely assure their congregants that Obama is a fellow sectarian. “When Obama won,” says Mohammed, “it was a big day in Sadr City. Many people felt, Now we have a brother in the White House.” (Sadr City — estimated pop. 2 million — is a bastion of anti-Americanism, where the radical Shi’ite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr and his militia, the Mahdi Army, hold sway. Few Americans would dare visit the neighborhood without a massive military escort.)
Obama’s family background appears to be Sunni rather than Shiite. Not that it particularly matters. Obama’s Islamic sympathies appear to be those of the left which leads him to side with those Muslims that are the most anti-American at any given moment. Which is why he went from backing the Muslim Brotherhood to aiding Iran.
