Top Nazi Joseph Goebbels's estate sues Random House over quotes taken from his diary

In a last-minute attempt to unlock commercial value from Joseph Goebbels' Nazi diaries, the estate of Adolf Hitler's propaganda chief is suing publisher Random House for royalties. The legal claim for unpaid royalties is made over a biography entitled "Goebbels", written by Peter Longerich, which extensively quotes from the top Nazi's diaries - which remain copyrighted until next year.

Publisher Random House, however, pushed back on the claim by Goebbels' estate. General counsel Rainer Dresen said that paying such money would be considered immoral.

"I did not want to believe that anyone can claim royalties for Goebbels' words," Dresen said, adding: "We are convinced that no money should go to a war criminal."

The biography was originally published in Germany in 2010, and is due to come out in English in May of this year.

What family? Goebbels and the bride murdered the six kids they had together before killing themselves. She had a son, Harold Quant, from a former marriage, but Goebbels never adopted him [He was in the Luftwaffe at the time of his mother's suicide]. So, Cui bono?
