Nigeria: Jihadists preach Islam at mosque, then murder 24

boko-haramReuters is sure that this was an act of deception, and after all, Muhammad is said to have proclaimed, “War is deceit.” However, he is also depicted as saying that Muslims should first invite the unbelievers to accept Islam or pay the jizya, and then fight those who refuse. Did Boko Haram consider that this also applied to Muslims it did not consider to be sufficiently observant?
“Fight in the name of Allah and in the way of Allah. Fight against those who disbelieve in Allah. Make a holy war… When you meet your enemies who are polytheists, invite them to three courses of action. If they respond to any one of these you also accept it and withhold yourself from doing them any harm. Invite them to (accept) Islam; if they respond to you, accept it from them and desist from fighting against them….If they refuse to accept Islam, demand from them the Jizya. If they agree to pay, accept it from them and hold off your hands. If they refuse to pay the tax, seek Allah’s help and fight them.” (Sahih Muslim 4294)

MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – Islamist Boko Haram militants disguised as preachers killed at least 24 people and wounded several others in an attack near a mosque in northeast Nigeria’s Borno state, a military source and witness said on Monday.
The attackers arrived in cars late on Sunday and gathered people to a mosque in the remote village of Kwajafa, pretending to preach Islam. They then opened fire on them, witness Simeon Buba said.
