Poll: Democrats not buying what Hillary's selling

83% say electing 1st woman president 'does not matter much'

Published: 10 hours ago

When Hillary Clinton announces her candidacy for president Sunday, there’s something a majority of Democrats would like to hear but won’t – the name of her “serious” Democrat primary challenger.

A Bloomberg Politics national poll released Friday reveals Democrats may be suffering Clinton fatigue at just the moment the former first lady needs to make her first impression as a candidate.

According to the 1,008 adults polled — Democrats and Independents — 72 percent said it would be beneficial for Hillary Clinton to face real opposition in her own party.

Both Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren and former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley have sent signals they may run for the Democrat nomination in 2016. They were joined this week by former Rhode Island Sen. and Gov. Lincoln Chaffee, a Republican-turned-Democrat.

“The Republicans have lots of choices, I feel that Democratic voters deserve choices too,” said Chaffee.

More choices would dilute Clinton’s support. Already, over the past 10 months, the number of self-described Democrats telling Bloomberg they would definitely vote for Clinton has fallen from 52 percent to 42 percent.

Some of that fall-off may be attributed to revelations the former secretary of state used private email accounts and a private email server to conduct official business. She subsequently deleted the emails and wiped the server clean. When surveyed, a majority of Democrats and Independents – 53 percent – said they believed Clinton “purposefully withheld or deleted some” of her emails.

More problematic may be the narrative of Clinton as America’s first woman president no longer resonates with Democrats.

While a March Gallup poll showed 18 percent of respondents saying her being the first female president would be the most positive thing about a Clinton presidency, 83 percent of the Democrats and Independents polled by Bloomberg said a female in the Oval Office “does not matter much” in their vote. Only 12 percent were more inclined to vote for Clinton because of her gender, with 4 percent saying it made them less likely.

But Clinton is planning to raise $2.5 billion for her race and that could make all the difference.

The last line of the article says it all; "But Clinton is planning to raise $2.5 billion for her race and that could make all the difference."  How disgusting is that really?  Billions.  Freaking billions being spent to elect a president.

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
