Thomas Friedman: Netanyahu's Win Plays Into Iran's Hands

By: Greg Richter

The Iranian regime is happy with the victory of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, says New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman.

Friedman, appearing Wednesday on CNN's "Erin Burnett OutFront," said Iran opposes a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians because it keeps tensions high and empowers Iran in the region.

"There's a constant grinding between Israeli settlers and Palestinians," he said. "It keeps the focus away from Iran's own abuse of its own people. Nothing makes Iran happier than Israel opting for a one-state solution."

Netanyahu in the closing days of the campaign vowed there would be no two-state solution if he won re-election. His Likud party cruised to an easy victory after polls had predicted a tight race.

On the issue of nukes to Iran, opposition candidate Herzog had the SAME position as Netanyahu. Both opposed nukes to Iran.

They only differed on domestic economic issues.
