Joe Biden Manages To Piss Off All Irish Protestants On St. Patrick’s Day

By Brian Anderson, March 18, 2015.

How does a gaffe-prone blathering idiot celebrate St. Patrick’s Day? By making an insensitive remark that offends all of the Irish Protestants, that’s how. Vice President Joe Biden was receiving the Irish Prime Minister and his wife at his home when he made what was later described as a joke that they weren’t welcome because of their religious faith and nationality.

The Belfast Telegraph elaborates:

US Vice President Joe Biden raised some eyebrows this St Patrick’s Day when he told the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and wife Fionnuala that “if you’re wearing orange, you’re not welcome in here.”

Greeting the pair for breakfast at his home, Mr Biden made the remark as he embraced Mr Kenny this morning.

A couple of things to know here: Taoiseach is the leader of the Irish government, equivalent to Prime Minister or President. Orange is an issue because it is the color associated with Irish Protestants. In case you didn’t know, the Protestants and Catholics have had a few issues in Ireland in the past.

Basically the Orange Order is a Protestant fraternal group that is associated with the conservative British unionist movement. Essentially, they want Ireland to remain close to the United Kingdom while Irish Catholic nationalists want Ireland to break from Mother England. The IRA terrorists are the Catholics.

It may not seem like a big deal to many Americans (especially the non-Irish) but Biden making a “joke” about orange is tantamount to him telling the Israeli Prime Minister that his blue Star of David is not welcome in his home.

This latest foot-n-the-mouth from our VP doesn’t have the Irish government laughing:

DUP MP for South Antrim William McCrea called on Mr Biden to apologise.

Mr McCrea said: “I appreciate the Vice-President later said his ‘orange’ remark was a joke. I don’t see it as humorous in the manner it was said. When Northern Ireland is making such an effort to make St Patrick’s Day an inclusive celebration, Joe Biden’s comments were disgraceful and careless.

“Whether they were intended as a joke or not, the comments are a slur on those who would be known as ‘orange’ i.e. Protestants. This term is much wider than anyone who is a member of the Orange Order. It has traditionally been used to define people from the Protestant faith.”

With this astute observation:

“VP Biden should apologise for his remarks and take corrective action to prove in a practical way that people who are from a Protestant background are welcome in the White House. Undoubtedly if he had made such a remark about any other faith group there would be calls for his resignation.”

How very true. Had Biden made a remark that alluded to him not wanting a Muslim in his house, there would be so much outrage that he couldn’t shovel his way out of it with an excavator.

Now here’s the big shocker about this supposed joke: Joe Biden is a member of the Roman Catholic faith and, hold on to your shillelagh, of Irish decent. This wasn’t a joke at all, but rather a bit of hate speech. He sympathizes with the Irish Catholics and hates the Irish Protestants.

Lucky for Biden that this involves white Christians, otherwise he might be in some real trouble. Thanks to some politically correct wrangling, hatred only applies to people of color and religions of violence.
