Oklahoma teens thwart classmate's 'mass casualty' bomb plans

EDMOND, Okla., March 14 (UPI) -- A group of alert high schoolers thwarted a classmate's plan to use explosives at the school and kill several people, the Edmond, Okla. police said.
Authorities said students at Edmond North High School began alerting school administration two weeks ago that the 16-year-old boy seemed suicidal. In the days that followed, the school closed because of a snow storm, but the students said they continued to get alarming texts from their friend.
"Over the snow days, the text messages between the students elevated to where the students came back to school on Friday, told administration again they were really concerned about the mental health of this student," Jenny Monroe, Edmond Police Department spokeswoman, said.
When police took over, they found the texts to contain alarming details.
"He was quoting other school mass casualty events, quotes from some of those people who carried out those events," Monroe said. "They weren't generic statements. They were very pointed and detailed."
When police searched the boy's home, they found blueprints for explosives and bomb components. Investigators said the boy had no specific day planned to carry out the attack. He was taken to a mental-health facility. He has not been charged.
