UK: Muslims arrested for conning elderly into funding jihadis’ trips to Syria

British officials better conduct more “outreach” to Muslim communities, and ban more counter-jihadis, to keep this sort of thing from happening.

Terrorism officers investigating a major fraud, in which elderly victims are duped into funding UK extremists travelling to Syria, have arrested two men in west London.

Officers swooped on two addresses on Wednesday (March 4), as part of the ongoing investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command (SO15).

The arrested men – aged 29 and 23 – are being held in custody at a south London police station while enquiries continue.

Officers also executed search warrants at two addresses in north London, another in west London and one in south east London. They are still searching all six addresses.

The arrests – made under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) – form part of an investigation into a “large-scale” fraud, in which unsuspecting vulnerable and elderly victims are cold-called at home by a criminal impersonating a police officer.
